I have a question, if all goes well and we get the approval after our interview do they mail my fiance her visa or do the hold on to her passport? Her flight back home is 2 days after interview. We cannot really afford any more hotel fee's. So again IF we get the approval whats typically the standard procedure? Is the Visa stamped into her passport or is it a separate document that they can mail to her?

The visa stickers are applied to one of the passport pages. This typically takes a few days.

I've seen other members post about similar circumstances (though not Abu Dhabi) where they traveled home and then sent their passport to the embassy for the visa to be attached.

As Ning stated, you need to ask this question directly to the embassy. They will be expecting the passport to be left there if the interview is successful.

Salam,

basically with Abu Dhabi, Iranian applicants end up with 2 scenarios:

1. Visa Approved, no AP(Administrative Processing):

In this case they will tell that the beneficiary has been granted the Visa and give them a pink slip. The embassy would keep the passport and tell the beneficiary to stay in town for about a week (at most) and pick their passport with the Visa.

2. Visa Approved, with AP:

Which unfortunately happens to most of Iranian citizens. In this case they will tell you that although they have approved your Visa, but you have to undergo a further background check (fbi check) before issuing the Visa. They will give you your passport with a blue slip and ask you to return to Iran and check the status of the visa on a website with the number written on the blue slip and return to Abu Dhabi to have the visa printed in your passport. This process generally takes something between 1 week to 1 month, in some rare cases even 2,3...it all depends on if the beneficiary:

- has a name that would be confused with bad guys

- has been to military service (sarbazi) and where (if male)

- has a government-related job

- ...

So in general, the fact that your beneficiary is female, it should make the process easier (since all the bad guys are men?:D)...but in either case, you have to remember that the best part is that this is really the end of this looooong journey. Once you pass the interview, even if you get the blue slip, you will get your visa really really soon  recently I've seen more Iranians getting the pink slip (even for men) and I hope that this happens for you too, but if they put you on AP, no worries, it's not the end of the world, you will be approved sooner than you think  be strong and send positive vibes, remember that you have passed %95 of this journey...remember what you've been through all these months and be sure that it is all coming to an end  go full-armed to the interview (forms/evidences/affidavit/medical/etc.) and always remember the wonderful journey ahead of you for the rest of your lives

but IMHO it is a safe decision for your fiancee to stay a couple days more, just in case they hold her passport to stamp the visa...or at least if you've already booked the hotel and plane, be ready if they ask you to stay for a few more days

It is my understanding with Iran, because there is no Embassy there,

the person takes their passport back and goes back to Iran for yet a longer wait, longer for men then women and then has to fly back to the embassy when the visa has been approved and then can leave for the US from there.
