Hello,

my father (U.S. citizen) has filed a petition (I-130) for me in December. The priority date (when visa number becomes available) will probably not become current for another 7 years. I am currently studying for my Masters in the U.S. on an F-1 Visa. I would like to enter a PhD program next Fall. If we cancel the petition, would I be able to get an F-1 Visa for the PhD program or does the U.S. government always view me as a person with the intent to immigrate from now on? I think it asks on the F-1 visa application if anyone has ever petitioned for immigration status for you. I would have to check yes. My long range goal is obviously to immigrate and I cannot lie about that to the consulate. What are my chances of getting another F-1 visa?

Sincerely,

DeepOcean
