This country has completely lost it's mind.

I got a notice in the mail today that I could sign up for a free cell phone if I meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the government, Why in hades should I be taxed to death to pay for a cell phone for someone that does not work.

I was at the local grocery store and a woman at the CS counter in front of me, presented her EBT card to get a cash payment. This woman had an expensive hair do, fancy nails, nice cell phone and from the size of her large butt also ate very well. She then took the cash and bought a handful of Lottery tickets. My head almost exploded.

This country is out of control when our taxpayer money is paying for people that are to unmotivated to work to have Cell Phones, Fancy Hair dos, Lottery tickets, cigarettes and Beer.

I am ok with helping the poor. Give them basic cheap food staples, Flour, Milk , Cheese, Grits, eggs etc. Maybe provide basic shelter. Being poor should suck and not be comfortable. Not being comfortable motivates people to do better. What incentive do you have to work, when you have decent housing, decent car, cash to get your hair done, government cell phone, and a government cash to buy items like Lottery tickets, Beer and Tobacco and you spit out more and more children to suckle of the Government #######.

If you are on Govenrment assistance Drug tests and Birth Control should be mandatory . .

PETERBOROUGH, N.H. — A convenience store clerk who was fired recently for refusing to sell cigarettes to a customer trying to pay for them with state welfare benefits has been fired, but her story has gained traction in local and national media.

According to press reports, Jackie Whiton was working at a C.N. Brown Big Apple convenience store recently when a man in his 20s attempted to purchase cigarettes using an electronic benefit transfer card, which is issued to families in New Hampshire and Maine who are on the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF program. Whiton, a six-year employee of the store, refused to sell the man the cigarettes.

“I told him he couldn’t buy them with the card and he said ‘yes he could,’” Whiton told the Union Leader newspaper in New Hampshire. The man’s foster mother returned to the store the next day to complain and Whiton again refused to accept the EBT card as payment for cigarettes. She was fired by the company the next day.

The story about Whiton was published by scores of local and national media outlets over the past couple of days.

According to New Hampshire officials, there are few restrictions on how a EBT card can be used, but they can’t be used at liquor stores. C.N. Brown, the Maine-based company that owns the store Whiton worked at along with 77 others, said in a statement Thursday that it was notified by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services that it needed to comply with policy or risk being terminated from the program.

“Our employees cannot impose their own personal biases over these products and make decisions about what will and will not be sold to individual customers,” said C.N. Brown general manager Chick Wilkins. “Each of our more than 800 employees may have individual opinions about many of the products sold in our stores — tobacco, wine, beer, condoms, high-calorie products — but these products must be made equally available to all eligible purchasers.”

Wilkins said Whiton was given the opportunity to keep her job if she would adhere to company and state policy.

“Unfortunately she declined to comply, and we had no choice but to let her go for violation of company policy,” Wilkins said in a press release.

and before you liberal morons start... I posted the story to illustrate that people are using Taxpayer money to buy alcohol, tobacco and lottery tickets. I am not defending the clerk for not following company rules, but i do praise her for sacrificing her job to bring attention to this issue. God bless her for making a stand, but the company was within their rights to terminate her.

Maybe the person you saw buying the lottery ticket was only recently made unemployed and had paid already contributed more than her fair share to social security. If it is good enough for Ron Paul to collect his Social security check every month, surely other people are just as entitled to expect something back?

So since you RWNJ morons have already started, this liberal would like to point out that we are just as outraged as you are, probably even more so as we have been the ones to support these programs for the benefit of those out there who actually need a social safety net. We see these incidents of outrageous abuse and we are horrified, especially when we realize the mileage that the right wingers will get in trying to gut these programs that (hopefully) most recipients truly need.

Fraud and abuse exist in every program everywhere that involves money! Period! Being able to show that an episode has occurred should not lead one to the automatic assumption that the episode is typical. It should call for an objective assessment of the program to identify how big a problem there is and what measures are appropriate to correct the abuse. Why does this never seem to happen? Is it because the right does not want to see actual facts and percentages knowing that this might render their public hand-wringing less useful politically? Or is it fear on the part of the left that other episodes may come to light further discrediting their efforts? Probably some of both!

The point here is that this is just another example of big government spending more money that they don't have and driving us deeper in debt. The left and the right are both wrong and need to change their ways before this country is totally ruined, if it is not already too late. Spending has to be controlled and reduced, and millionaires must pay more in tax.

That was actually a well thought out logical reply. Thanks. We agree on the principal, but I do disagree that this is not typical. I see it every day, I am exposed to that culture in my work place. I see the Christmas like celebration when the W-2's come in and people that paid a few hundred in income taxes that year are getting back literally 5 and 6 K. . I then see the Polo Jackets cruises, and other ####### that they evaporate the windfalls on. I hear them talking about buying baby diapers with WIC benefits to sell for money at 1/2 price. I can assure you that incident is not rare but the norm.

I being a as you say "RWNJ", actually I am a moderate Libertarian,, I am all for helping the poor and infirm. What I find offensive is that we are enabling an attitude and life style that is self destructive to the person and dragging this country down. We should never give cash as a benefit nor reward unproductive behavior.

The first and foremost thing we have to do is stop children from having babies and getting public assistance for it. we now have over an 80% 1 parent household rate in some ethnic cultures in this country, due to such programs.

The wealthiest 5% pay 57% of all taxes. 47% of Americans pay no taxes.

How much more should the wealthy pay. ? I am confused ?

The rest of your statement is right on. The left and right are both wrong and spending has to stop
