If you are in Bogota things come quickly but the mail system down there sucks. The hangup is not at the consulate. It is in the mail.

If you have a great friend in bogota you can send them notarized permission to go to the consulate and get a copy for you. I say a great friend becuase this is an all afternoon ordeal.

Did you send the packet 3 that you downloaded here? It nevr seemd like a good idea to answer before you are asked. You probably need to start checking the consulate web site to make sure that you don't already have the appointment scheduled.

1. Did you faxed and send by courier (Servientrega); a copy of your fiancées passport, OF-169, DS-2001 and DS-230 part 1?

2. When did you faxed the documents?

3. When did you send the documents by courier?

If the Embassy gets these documents before the cut-off date (varies from month to month 16th to the 20th) then you get the interview the following month. If not by the cut-off date you get the interview the month after that.

Sjoefl01,

It is great how you help out people and most of the time give very good advice but it is irresponsible for you to say something creates a problem that it doesn’t. Many and I mean “MANY” have use the forms download from here making sure they are the latest and send them in before the Embassy sent packet #3. A lot of people have not received packet# 3 and/or 4 and have gone through the process and are here in the U.S. Of course getting packet# 4 is more essential than packet# 3. I was one of many VJ member that did this process without any problem. If you say there is a problem with it let us know who had the problem because I have been here a long time and have help out a lot of people and no one has ever stated that there was a problem with sending in the forms before you get packet# 3. So I will await your response.

Thanks,

Peter Miami

Lucero lived in Bogota,

Twice she went to the consulate, begged her way in and got copies of the packet 4 for people who had interviews with no letter to get in. This is an ordeal that begins at 9 AM and ends at about 3:30 or 4. Then you have to ship the forms to your friend and hope this all happens in time.

I don't remeber if you accompanied your fiance to the interview or not but the consulate in Bogota is a miserable place to spend your day.

The whole thing happens pretty quick anyway after the petition is approved. There is a lot of information to gather and arrangements to make.

You have to remember while you as the American are very anxious to have your new bride or groom your Colombian future spouse is getting rid if everything they own and saying goodbye to friends and family that they will probably not see for some time.

An extra couple of weeks can be the difference between a paniced, frenzied rush out of the country and a nice orgasnized move.

I know your pretty proud of the little loophole that you found in the system and it is commendable that you want to share it with others.

I just don't agree. If you consider going along with the system to be irresponsible then I will yield. We obviously have different ideas.

Hi sjoefl01,

I agree on most things you said. The U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia sucks and it takes all day and they do not help you out at all. The only point I am making if you do things correctly and plan a head, you can be with you fiancée quicker by one to three months. This is not for everybody and one should prepare ahead of time because the process goes quicker. I am opening up an avenue which was opened up for me by prior VJ members that went through Bogota, Colombia and no one help me entirely, I had to get it in piece meals. So what I have tried to do is give the information to who ever wants it as complete and detailed as I can.

If you do not agree with it fine but do not say that other VJ members have had problems with it. I have no beef with you and you have helped many VJ members as I am sure you helped me when I was in the process. I want to thank you for helping me and others through this process.

I don't mean to challenge your authority here Peter but did you look at our timeline? This all happened within a couple of months anyway. Maybe there are some horror stories that I missed but I really don't see how you can say that you save people one to three months with your method. Things happen quickly after the approval at the service center. I really haven't seen the proof that you are saving so much time by sending the forms for packet 3 before you even get it. You are a CPA. Show me your data!!!

Ovet,

You sent the packet 3 off on or about October 2, 2006. We sent ours on October 6, a few days later, and have not received the packet 4 either. The mail in Colombia, especially the mail that is being delivered to Cali and surrounding cities takes forever. The embassy had mailed our packet 3 out on September 9. The post office in Tulua already had it there for over two weeks before delivering packet 3 on October 6. Can only hope that packet 4 arrives soon so I can make the travel arrangements. If no word by the end of the month then check the embassy website and see if your NVC number is posted and your scheduled interview date. If it is then you should contact the embassy because you need the letter with the interview date on it to get into the embassy on the date of the interview. Good luck, we may see you down there on the same date.

I am a C.P.A. not an Industrial Engineer or Method Study Analyst. Just read the threads people do not get packet #3 and Packet #4. Like I have stated before there are people in the U.S. already that have not yet received packet# 3 and / or 4. It was very easy for your fiancée at the time because I believe she lived in Bogota, most VJ members do not have that luxury, they live far from Bogota. Your fiancée could just go across town and received what she need. This is not the case with most. Just re-read this thread.

Hello Ovet, I think we will all receive a November interview date, trouble is we won't find out until they post the November dates and if the interview falls at the beginning of November we will not have much time to respond and do the physical exam. Hope the interview is not until at least the middle of the month.

Hello Ovet, I think we will all receive a November interview date, trouble is we won't find out until they post the November dates and if the interview falls at the beginning of November we will not have much time to respond and do the physical exam. Hope the interview is not until at least the middle of the month.
