Basically your rights stop where mine start, and as long as I don't have to witness it, condone it or fund it, what you do is your business.

Let me let you in on a little secret, in a free society (or any other) we often have to witness things we don't agree with be it gays kissing in the park or street preachers with a megaphone.

Also few people would agree with everything their tax dollars fund, be it wars, cell phones for the poor or money sent to Israel.

Just sayin.

Christians think they have a free ride to do whatever they want. As I have already mentioned I have been subjected to all kinds of bad behavior by Christians, never by an atheist. Not agreeing with their behavior would be a massive understatement.

What can I say, you must give off the appearance you "need god" because I live in the bible belt and except for the annual door knocker (always polite and well meaning) I never ever have anyone browbeat or even invite me to church.

If you have an aversion to religion and religious people, move to those parts of the country (or world) where you will rarely find it.

To be honest, the most evangelistic people I seem to encounter are health nuts. Thats what they are into and believe in so it is only normal that want to "share" it with me, I certainly don't take offense because just like the Christian wanting to "share" the good thing they have found. the effort is well meaning.

I certainly hope you are not one of these DWL (disingenuous White Libs) who claim to value diversity?

I like diversity, Christianity is the majority here, it's not very diverse here. I don't mind what people do with themselves, if they want to go to church, that's great. The church can do a lot of good things for a community, I respect it. I will never attack a persons religion, even if I don't agree with their views. Unfortunately Christians have not treated me with the same grace. :(

I saw this report on CNN. Their panel consisted of two atheists, one atheist activist and one teacher. The atheist activist just had the greatest grin on his face.

I get atheists. I just don't get atheist activists. What's with these stupid billboards? What is it they are hoping to accomplish? When churches put up billboards and advertise they are hoping to increase their congregations which will increase donations that help their church going, which can either lead to positive things like donations, or maybe not so positive things like adding a new 30 story church organ.

But what exactly do atheist get out of other people turning atheist? Why do they care? These guys probably annoy me more than any other people out there, more than the 99%, just a bit less than the 9/11 truthers.

I'm sorry you had that experience proabably what you need is more experience with those Christians, don't isolate yourself from them.... or avoid them.

As a DWL you want to be able to say "I don't hate Christians, I even have a Christian friend."

Tolerance is more then just being around people you like or feel comfy with ....

in the same way no one has the right to expect they can insulate themselves from Blacks or any other minority, so must you open up your life, Schedule and even home to others different than yourself.

Let me know how that is workin out for you.

Of course you don't need to apologize for someone else, but I appreciate it. :) I know it isn't normal behavior, obviously no one in their right mind would condone that kind of behavior. Both sides have bad people, I just wanted to make it clear that I have had bad experiences with religious people.

I do have Christian friends, more so than I have atheist friends, I avoid talking politics and religion with them and things are just fine. If I stopped talking to people with religious beliefs, I wouldn't have many friends at all!

It's funny you say that but I posted a story here some time back about how male dominated the club is, and how research on singles sites show very few women chose Atheists as an expectable choice..... though on the internet female atheists are around......

But remember if the internet mirrored reality, Ron Paul would be President.

People who are fanatical about anything, be it atheism, religion, politics, star wars etc, need to find something else to occupy their time.

Yeah but at least there are CHICKS at the Star WARS convention.

Who wants to spend a weekend with a bunch of Grumpy 45 year old Atheists in brown sports coats with no women in the hall?

Of course it might be of some relevance to remind you that there are like ten or fifteen times more Religious people than atheists so even if Atheists were actively recruiting at 5 times the rate as the average Christian your odds of being cornered by an Atheist would still be much lower.

What does that have to do with anything? I was cornered by a christian, he was extremely critical and yelled at me and wouldn't let me leave. My husband had to come and argue with him to get me free. He didn't keep his feelings to himself so your argument is void. Christians are very aggressive with voicing their opinions and this is why atheists assert their dislike of religion.

yes. this one man must represent 2.5billion christians around the world.

your argument is completely ridiculous. because of your experiences i must be wrong? this is one person who clearly does not understand his own faith. what happened should happen. Jesus and the bible will tell you that.

because of a few experiences you throw half of the world into a box.

theres buses around london right now which say "there is no God" i see them every day.

trust me when i say this as a christian i get more offended by preaching than you as it is wrong.

Yes I agree with your assessment, I was just saying that as a General political philosophy, basically meaning I can agree with your right to do something without supporting the action. .
