There is a movement afoot to nullify PPACA one state at a time. Interesting times await us... they want to decentralize this country and the Left has assumed that's a bad thing. It may not be.

The old confederacy was rural and poor and (relatively) unindustrialized.

Also: there is no appetite anymore to fight a bloody war to hold on to Mississippi. The slave states had value to the north. Mississippi today has no value at all.
