I would be housebound if I didn't have a car. There is no sidewalk here, so there is no choice. City planners are forcing me to pay for car insurance!!

Edit: Republican city planners.

Just think about how high your property taxes would be if you had sidewalks, they'd probably jump up from 10% to at least 15%.

If the table was flipped and the supreme court vote the other way today, just what exactly would the fine liberal minds of this country be saying? I'll tell you exactly what they'd be saying. "This plays right into our hands for Nov. because the majority of Americans are in favor of universal healthcare and this will ensure that Obama gets elected and we can appeal this ridiculous ruling! We're going to send a message to the supreme court and show them they were wrong!" Blah, Blah, Blah.

Both sides are so predictable.

Of course because everyone in this country knows the current health care system is unsustainable, it's current expenditure is 17.4% of GDP and increasing. Compare that to countries who have universal health care with 8-10% of GDP and have much better health care outcomes such as life expectancy, infant mortality etc....

And just imagine what that 17.4% will jump to in the next 5 or 10 years without making any changes.

  1. According the the rationale of those who oppose HNC you should not be forced to purchase auto insurance if you can't afford it. Pfffff!rofl.gifrofl.gif

But then the democratic unions would require such a high fee to build the sidewalks that the city would be in debt for the next decade.

if you did, how are you still here?

You too Charles - its no good putting it to the back of your mind

Your death bed is as pre-ordained as mine

It WILL happen to all of us and therefore helping each other in health matters is not communism but ultimately it is self-help

It's that failure to realize our common predicament in so many matters that make people swing right and think that they will be ok and they wont give anything to anyone or need anything from anyone and live in total grasping selfishness until they die quietly and inexpensively in their sleep very many years from now

That's their mistake - Its a delusion

Right wingerism is people in denial of their own possible needs and their humanity

Someone I knew had reached their limit for chemotherapy treatments on their insurance plan, so had to pay for them out of pocket. $6k a time. :o

No wonder moderation is so abysmal on VJ. Moderators can't even read.

Ya. It's outrageous. Going through chemo should be punishment enough. My first experience of doctors here was when I went to the ER with my husband and they charged our insurance $20 for ONE Benadryl. A whole pack of 24 is about $5. Still trying to figure that one out.

My mother fell down the stairs at age 72 and fractured her skull and had brain damage

She had fabulous treatment and eventually got into a beautiful local authority residence with patios and gardens and summer houses. I have been in worse 4 star hotels.

At age 92 she had a FULL HYSTERECTOMY

At age 94 she broke her arm and later her femur

She died surrounded with great carers when she was 95

Then I turn on the telly and some Republican is lying through his teeth saying in the UK you will be left to die over age 50 and they give you an aspirin and send you home.

The Americans aren't stupid - they are just lied to and don't know the truth

The total cost for my mother - all health care and all residency costs from age 72 to age 95 - NIL - NOT ONE CENT !

My red passport is my lifeline

I am constantly questioned by people here about health care in the UK. Do you get that too? Usually I'm asked a question about it and after I answer them, they disagree with me and tell me it is terrible there and it is much better here. I will ask them if they have ever used the NHS, of course 99% of them haven't been to the UK and are just regurgitating some republican political commercial they saw on TV. Then I ask them if it is better if someone dies from not having any insurance or if you have to wait a little bit of time for an operation. By that point their brains are ready to explode.

People are always really quick to tell me British food is horrible too, that one makes me laugh. They all think Ihop is edible though. :bonk:
