Obama, today:

That’s why, even though I knew it wouldn’t be politically popular, and resisted the idea when I ran for this office, we ultimately included a provision in the Affordable Care Act that people who can afford to buy health insurance should take the responsibility to do so. In fact, this idea has enjoyed support from members of both parties, including the current Republican nominee for President.

Duh! That was then! This is now...

I find it interesting that Republicans should oppose the idea that everyone should pay for their own health insurance, as opposed to having some pay for all... By their rationale, auto insurance should also be optional...

I also thought that. The GOP were complaining on Fox that the government is "forcing" people to buy insurance. We can't drive a car without insurance and we can't get around without a car... :bonk:

In all fairness, you do not need car insurance if you are not planning to drive, and equally you should not need health insurance if you are not planning to get sick.

The most hypocritical aspect of the law, is that the Republicans defend the right of the individual to have health insurance, but they force hospitals to provide care for all, even those who cant afford to pay for their services. It is not unlike forcing a body shop to repair your car even if you can't afford it. By law, a hospital cant refuse service on an individual's ability to pay, unlike a restaurant or body shop.

So far, nobody was able to explain to me how that makes sense...

Oh yes and they'll be taking a "large share of your earnings" to pay for it. You'll basically have to live on $10 a week.

Once we stop the wars and share the Koch brother's and Romney's money out, and charge $100 a year for every gun owned, we will be able to repair the bridges AND have health care

It's a black day for the rightos but have you noticed they wont admit it

They say its playing into their hands

They wouldn't have said that if they had lost

How cold to compare a broken car to a sick human - no insurance - no health care - step over him - this is a nation of 50% sociopaths and the opposite of christianity

Have you realized yet that you are going to get sick and die in pain - I have - it's humbling and unifying

If the table was flipped and the supreme court vote the other way today, just what exactly would the fine liberal minds of this country be saying? I'll tell you exactly what they'd be saying. "This plays right into our hands for Nov. because the majority of Americans are in favor of universal healthcare and this will ensure that Obama gets elected and we can appeal this ridiculous ruling! We're going to send a message to the supreme court and show them they were wrong!" Blah, Blah, Blah.

Both sides are so predictable.

No wonder moderation is so abysmal on VJ. Moderators can't even read.

i'll organize a search party for your sense of humor immediately.

Don't forget the talk of impeaching Scalia, mocking Thomas for never participating in oral argument, denouncing Roberts for being a corporate ####### and Alito for being part of some shadow Catholic conspiracy out to destroy secularism.

Oh and a lot of talk of packing the court. Yes, that was the popular topic just yesterday on the liberal blogs I read when everyone believed SCOTUS would kill ACA.

I know, it's ridiculous how right wingers can directly compare human beings to cars to justify getting access to affordable health care.

I would be housebound if I didn't have a car. There is no sidewalk here, so there is no choice. City planners are forcing me to pay for car insurance!!

Edit: Republican city planners.
