The next step is to end age discrimination, so that a healthy eighteen year old pays as much for his insurance as a senior with a chronic condition does at age fifty-six. Currently the only way that happens is if both have the same group coverage. As an individual, the eighteen year old pays about a quarter of what the senior does for the same coverage.

It's called being part of a community and sharing both hardships and the good times

The military know the concept - but they are government employees after all and can afford to act better than animals

To the rightos, pooling their interests with someone else equals communism, but they are as primitive as an Eskimo dragging his now worthless elderly relative out into the snow to die

Mc Connell is a true Eskimo in this regard

A righto wouldn't pee on me if I was on fire - unless there was a danger of his lawn catching fire.

This philosophy has damaged the image of America the world over - not that the rightos care about the outside world any more than a rapist cares about the rights of women

Poll: Republicans hate ‘Obamacare,’ but like most of what it does

Ezra Klein on June 26

I recently mentioned that there’s yet another poll showing that most of the Affordable Care Act’s provisions are popular, even as the bill itself remained unpopular. That poll was from Reuters/Ipsos, and Greg Sargent smartly asked them for the crosstabs. Digging in, he found that the ironies go even deeper than that. It’s not just that most of the Affordable Care Act’s provisions are popular. It’s that they’re popular with Republicans:

* Eighty percent of Republicans favor “creating an insurance pool where small businesses and uninsured have access to insurance exchanges to take advantage of large group pricing benefits.” That’s backed by 75 percent of independents.

* Fifty-seven percent of Republicans support “providing subsidies on a sliding scale to aid individuals and families who cannot afford health insurance.” That’s backed by 67 percent of independents.

* Fifty-four percent of Republicans favor “requiring companies with more than 50 employees to provide insurance for their employers.” That’s backed by 75 percent of independents.

* Fifty two percent of Republicans favor “allowing children to stay on parents insurance until age 26.” That’s backed by 69 percent of independents.

* Seventy eight percent of Republicans support “banning insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions; 86 percent of Republicans favor “banning insurance companies from cancelling policies because a person becomes ill.” Those are backed by 82 percent of independents and 87 percent of independents.

* One provision that isn’t backed by a majority of Republicans: The one “expanding Medicaid to families with incomes less than $30,000 per year.”

There’s a reason for this. For the last two decades, leading Republicans have supported various health care plans that looked, well, like the Affordable Care Act. Then Democrats embraced the proposal and Republicans turned against it. But that all happened pretty quickly — too quickly, in fact, for Republicans to really develop and unite around a plausible alternative. And so when they talk off-the-cuff about what they would like to see happen in the health-care market, they tend to describe something similar to their old plan, which they now oppose. It can all get pretty confusing.

What many forget is that a lot of what went into the Universal Health Care bill was introduced by Republicans at a time when they were for it, before they became against it, back in the day when they changed their minds only twice a week.

Indeed, ever since Obama became president in 2008, their plan from the beginning wasn't to make the USA a better country to live in but to make Obama a one term president. Anything Obama suggested or pushed for was met with immediate opposition from the Republicans. (Just look at the number of Filibusters that have been made in the Senate) They've now moved so far to the right that even Ronald Reagan would be considered too liberal or classified as a RINO.

Sorry, a mandate on what? You are assuming he is talking about an individual mandate, but he could be talking about another type of mandate. There is not enough context there for anything.

To all the RWN's, Teabaggers and such who thought the mandate was some kind of communist takeover and an abomination of our beloved Constitution, I'm currently accepting your apologies. Admit now that you were just got up in the moment and weren't really thinking with your head straight. Admit that sometimes, like the Incredible Hulk, you let your emotions overpower your rationality. I forgive you and I'm here to help. May I suggest some Yoga or Tai Chi.

I tell you what, if a private industry setting tax rates turns out to be a good thing.... I'll apologize.

Until then, ponder why you folks are all against corporate greed yet celebrating the fact that today, our government basically gave a free license to an entire industry to set tax rates.

Speaking of which, I would actually like to hear some of our RWNJ members' opinions on this. I wonder where they all went?

We're at work. Someone's gotta pay for all this free sh!t the government is giving away.

now thats done. when does healthcare become less expensive?

Never. It can't ever be cheaper now. Once the government is involved it will only get more and more and more expensive every year.

Especially now that private industry gets to decide how much they'll charge for it. Ever heard of the FDIC? Why do banks get to charge you $35 for an overdraft?

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

Yes, better. Obama worked for quite a long time on this... a long time drafting, and then even a longer time working on passing it. During that time his plan underwent some changes, so that he could get it to pass through Congress.

He's a pragmatist. I am sure he would like a different law, but he wrote one that should have been palatable to all, because the system needed an overhaul badly. The US needed something, so he worked to get it done, even if it was not his most perfect wish. Why should he be faulted for taking other ideas under advisement? Republican ideas, I might add.
