What about the ones where they try and sell you drugs? Those creep me out. Why should I choose what medication I need, shouldn't that be for a doctor to decide? Then the lawsuits follow these crazy brainwashing drug commercials. :bonk:

That actually used to be illegal to advertise drugs on TV. Not sure when it changed. The 80s I think. My mom was a nurse in the 70s and all they could do for advertising was pretty much hand out pens and notepads tot he doctors with their logo and brand on it. Until they fix all these lawyers and their lawsuits and the drug companies pi$$ing away all kinds of money on ads, This health care bill aint gonna do anything. Lawyers and drug companies are not stupid. They're gonna get massive amounts of cash, and every dime is gonna come from the taxpayer eith directly or indirectly.

Basically the govt. is just playing a shell game with all this. Until they do something serious about the drug companies and insurance companies, AND the bloodsucking lawyers, nothing has changed.

2. Constant lawyer malpractice ads for <insert drug here> and ads saying "Have you been in an Accident?

If you watch TV for an entire evening you will find out there is a condition with a name - and a catchy acronym - for that little itching you have behind your ear once every 10 years. There will be a drug that will cure it. Ask your doctor about it! The drug will invariably have several side effects, amongst which you are sure to find: suicidal thoughts, death, liver problems, sexual side-efects and the urge to gamble.

You will also find out that you have several ailments you never suspected. Restless Leg Syndrome? Seriously dude?

That more than anything was the one thing that really disturbed me when I first came to the US. TV adverts loaded with medications and doctor offices saturated with advertisements selling products rather than information leaflets in how to make your health/lifestyle better. The doctor decides what medication is best for you, it is then when I came to realize the almighty dollar was more important than saving people's lives.

Healthcare shouldn't be a buisness, no one should profit from someone elses suffering due to ill health, its immoral particularly in a first world country like the US.

Just look at our kids today, almost everyone of them is on some type of perscription drug at a very young age. I'd never heard of ADD or ADHD, especially in kids, until the last decade or so. Now if you've got a kid that's overly energetic he's got ADD, no worries, there's a drug for that.

What ever happened to getting these kids out in the parks and playing off all of that pent up energy. I blame it on the parents more than anything else. Americans have become progressively more lazy with each generation. Most parents today would just rather drug their kids and stick them in front of a playstation for 8 hours, rather then get off their arses and go out and do something healthy or constructive.

You know the government will never be able to do anything about the drug companies. The Republicans would complain they wouldn't be making enough profits, blah blah blah...
