Yep it will confuse me and lot other....

You like the socialiast form, I don't I guess you are ok with doing what govt tell you to do.

I don't want govt to tell me if I can drink 16oz coke or I can only drink 8oz..... if I need to buy insurance or not should be personal choice.

Forcing to buy a product should not be mandatory it should be individual's choice.

I'm not confused. You are though. Just because someone tells you a story, it doesn't mean it is real.

Com on help me understand this….. someone uninsured visit a emergency room and it cost the hospital $1000.

Next person who is visiting the emergency room uses the his medical insurance pays his bill…. Would the hospital attach the previous patient’s bill his bill and charge the insurance company?

Are you really serious? You can't understand this? It's pretty simple... Try reading this all the way through... :bonk:

I don't think you get it. Private insurance companies pay for it due to rising health care costs. People that don't have insurance routinely go to the emergency room when they are sick. After they are well, they leave and never pay the bill. The only way for doctors and hospitals to break even at a minimum, is to raise the costs of health care to cover the people that don't pay. The emergency room is probably the most expensive form of health care out there.

Believe me, you are paying albeit indirectly.

Is insurance company going to pay that? R u kidding me all insurance company work for profit….

Hospital charges the state or Fed govt to recover the cost they had to incur for treating uninsured.

The Hospitals and Doctors charge insurance more… main reason is the malpractice lawsuits… doctors can be sued by insured or uninsured patient for negligence, doctors but a policy to cover themselves from these kinda lawsuit and they pay premium for this policy which is added to cost of the treat does not matter who it is insured or uninsured.

This is how it works. Patient A visits an emergency room and it cost the hospital $ 1,000. That person could not or chose not to pay.

Patient B has the same needs ase the previous person. It costs the hospital $ 1,000 to do that but they charge that person $ 2,000 because in their operational cost they already included patient's A cost. Of course the insurance company will be charged for one treatment only but the cost will be twice as much, in this simple example.

It is no different than operating a restaurant and factoring in spoilage in your operating costs and passing it on to consumers. In other words, when you go to a restaurant you are also paying for food that went bad or had to be discarded.

Hospitals do not charge the state or the feds for the unpaid bills because nither the Fed nor the state government have any obligation to pick up that tab. At the end of the day it is us who pay for it with our insurance premiums.

The person who told him this must have been the same one who told him the UK gives out free food.

Jeez dude. No they don't attach it to YOUR bill. You just pay the $1000. The govt. paying the other $1000 for the uninsured? Not likely. What happens is next time you go to the emergency room it's gonna cost you $2000 becuase of the other person that skipped out on the $1000.

Granted malpractice insurance plays a role and something should be done about that. Never gonna happen on the Democrats watch since they are owned by the plaintiff's atorneys in this country.

I remember living in Canada. You never ever saw these attorney ads on TV playing all day long like you do in the U.S. In Canada there are limits on damages. I remember some girl was killed by an accident playing in a park or something. The parents sued someone over it. I believe $250k was the max damages, and that was what the parents got. Not 20 million or something outrageious like that.

it still is the individuals choice. they can buy insurance or pay the tax. its their choice.

we're paying for it anyway.....have you ever heard the stories about retail stores jacking the prices up to make up the for losses due to theft/shop lifting? its the same thing. the hospitals get stiffed on the money from people w/o insurance, so they jack the prices to the insurance company to cover their losses. the insurance company then jacks the price of insurance to people that pay for their insurance coverage.

So many people getting jacked, you'd think we'd all have smiles on our faces.

Exactly, so why is it so hard for these Right Wingers to see this?? Why are the same old lies repeated again and again particularly by the Republican party and its ally Fox News? Why do they always go against their own best interests, screw themselves in the process and pander to the rich?

Because with the current system, neither party - hospitals or insurance companies - are held accountable for their expenses. Hospitals can charge whatever they want and the insurance companies can jack up their premiums as much as they please. It is no different than giving the health insurances carte blanche with money that isn't theirs.

What about the ones where they try and sell you drugs? Those creep me out. Why should I choose what medication I need, shouldn't that be for a doctor to decide? Then the lawsuits follow these crazy brainwashing drug commercials. :bonk:

That more than anything was the one thing that really disturbed me when I first came to the US. TV adverts loaded with medications and doctor offices saturated with advertisements selling products rather than information leaflets in how to make your health/lifestyle better. The doctor decides what medication is best for you, it is then when I came to realize the almighty dollar was more important than saving people's lives.

Healthcare shouldn't be a buisness, no one should profit from someone elses suffering due to ill health, its immoral particularly in a first world country like the US.

Watch TV during the day or late at night. It's commercial after commercial about 1 fo 2 things that working people pay for.

1. Vocational Schools

Endless commercials about truck driving schools, bartending schools, mechanic schools etc. etc. Of course when they go to these schools they get massive student loans that are guaranteed by the U.S. govt. What happens when they spend a year in this school and get out and can't even mix a drink? They can't pay back the loans, and the govt. has to pay it. Who pays the govt.? We all do.

2. Constant lawyer malpractice ads for <insert drug here> and ads saying "Have you been in an Accident?

Call me the Texas Hammer (Attorneys) Of course well all pay for this via higher auto insurance rates and higher health care bills due to some attorney suing State Farm for $500,000 cause some guy broke his leg in an accident. Of course the attorney get's ~33% of this. Or someone suing the hell out of hospitals and doctors for some stupid reason. It's blackmail. The plaintiff's attorney goes to the hospital or insurance company and says I'm going to sue you for $2 million dollars. It's gonna cost you $1 million dollars to pay your attorneys to defend this. Of course the hospital or insurance company says how about we give you $500k and we'll call it cool. The lawyer says sweet. He get's $165k out of the deal. The client get's the rest. Everything is cool. One problem, guess where that money comes from?

That's right. Everyone here in either higher taxes, or higher insurance premiums. I don't think there's another country in the world that operates like this.

It's been the same for me. I'm not a doctor, I'm not qualified to decide what prescription medication I need! These commercials should be directed at doctors!
