I'm sure he can't wait. He'll probably take the day off so he can have maximum time to close threads.

All the uptight over gambling and alcohol is a real throwback to the puritans and prohibition

Isn't it ironic, if not downright hypocritical that Las Vegas would not have been, were it not for the Mormon bankers who financed the casinos?

It is one of the fascinating things in our culture, that as a nation we are obsessed with sex and yet, we pretend to shun all things sexual and tend to frown at the erotic. We condemn gambling, yet built an entire city filled with temples and shrines where gamblers can make their pilgrimage to worship Lady Luck . We are horrified at the sight of a woman breastfeeding in public and yet out entertainment media glorifies all things silicone on women.

In some places you are prohibited by law to buy alcohol on Sundays and take it home for consumption, yet you are free to get drunk at a public restaurant.

I have already decided not to descend into a quagmire of warm beer and boiled mutton - I shall do a Braak and permit myself a slight cyber smirk

The election could be significant for us in certain circumstances. My wife is a young chick and if she lost her job, it would be V expensive to provide SAFE and GOOD health care without the insurance pools. The republicans are set to repeal the pools and pre-existing conditions ban etc and she hates the idea of an individual policy which makes it easier for the insurance companies to pick individuals off

In those circumstances we might chose to live in England for the fee health care - say Harrogate which has a lovely hospital and modern doctors offices

In case that gives any glee to my detractors, I should mention that we would return when she gets closer to Medicare age, if it hasn't been voucherized into insignificance by the conservatives by then

It's a great fall-back plan which is unlikely to be needed

I overheard a guy on the beach in Milwaukee. He said when he was in the Marines, they were on the beach at San Diego with some beer. The Police came and the officer said "I suppose your ID is in your car - why don't you go and get it. I don't expect you to find your way back here". That is good policing.

However, isn't it strange that a serving Marine can't enjoy a beer on the beach ?

I have totally integrated myself into the US in every way except these social issues such as health care and alcohol and all the up-tight over nipples etc.. Strangely, these are becoming more of an irritant to me with every passing day.

They are fading away in US society but I shall give these changes some assistance whenever I can

I am so bloody old that I can remember English society changing in the early 60's. It was VERY much like the US at that time. So Puritan and up-tight - but I saw a revolution in societal attitudes and I was so relieved that the country had changed. I see it happening here now with health care and beach bars, but it is all so slow.

When I got married, my Uncle and his wife turned up uninvited. My mother barred him from the reception and sent him home on the bus.

Why ? He had been divorced and remarried ! Can't have those people here !

So I have seen all this before and seen it swept away too.

Fortunately some are still respectful of our service men and women! It is interesting to notice that at 18 you are considered old enough to vote and kill man, women and children, but not to consume alcohol and god forbid, love another man or woman, if you are gay.

And we can agree on something too: In some social aspects, we are still in the 60's. I am not sure what they are hoping to eliminate when they blur out nipples and buttocks on our TV... I consider those exercises in imagination, because we all know what nipples and buns look like.. Furthermore, it is as though we had something about which to be ashamed of the human body or anatomy, all the while being exposed to spandex-clad people on the streets. If you want to see what obscene is, simply walk into any WalMart, Now, that is obscene...

LOL... Yes.. perish the thought of allowing the divorcee and divorce to partake in the wedding ceremony! What will the neighbors think!

I remember the first time I went to the Spanish Island of Ibiza in the Mediterranean (70's)

I was stunned by all the 19 year old Swedish girls walking around topless on just a normal beach. Not a nudist beach.

I spent the first day grabbing a sneaky out of the side of my sunglasses and I was overwhelmed

I spent the second day being picky

By the third day, I didn't even bother looking as it was nothing but a couple of blobs of fat !

The US can be desensitized to all this very quickly

The anti-health care people should know that once the people have improvements in their healthcare, NO GOVERNMENT will dare to try and take it back. I think they know actually - hence their hysteria.

Even Margaret Thatcher had to kneel at the alter of socialized health care and she had to swear to protect it. She never made an attack on it

When she was Minister of Health, she did manage to stop free school milk for kids, and she became known as "Thatcher the Milk Snatcher"

I don't know how these people can face their god

It's amazing! The front page is not dominated by Steven, but by AJ! The Arijit News Service is back. I sure hope Steven is okay.

Would you expand on this so non-nascar fans can understand it ?

I have sweet memories of Ibiza...

The anti-health care people need to get on with their lives and find something newer and shinier over which to obsess... I wonder if and when anyone will put Romney's birth certificate to scrutiny. Until then he may have been born on Dune and be a child of the spice... Who knows!?

Health Care Reform is here to stay and the sooner people realize their free ride on their medical bills is over the better off we all are.

On a lighter note, one of our neighbors was contemplating moving to Canada following the SCOTUS' ruling. I have encouraged her to do so and run away from the communistic socialistic spectrum that hangs over America. I can't wait to hear from her once she has settled there.... if I were a Canadian I would be very upset at a section of this country right now. There seems to be a large population of Americano who think Canada is this vast wilderness, still living in frontier times, just sitting there waiting for the disgruntled or ignorant American to take hold temporarily, until the 'next administration' is voted in. Hmm.. We should pair Reps and Dems and offer them time-share properties in Canada. Each could inhabit the property during the undesired administration. There is money to be made in partisanship outside DC!

Thatcher was very smart. No PM in his/her own mind would touch NHS. It is not my favorite as systems go and I had my disagreements with it, but for many Americans, it is far better than they have ever had. I think America can do better than the NHS and certainly better than what we have now.
