If the most important constituent of force required is weight, then it stands to reason that a "larger engineered" vehicle will never be more economical at lower speeds because it's heavier and takes more energy to get it moving. It is proven that larger vehicles, or all vehicles for that matter, become more economical at higher speeds, not in stop and go traffic around town.

However, if its straight acceleration from stationary, a smaller engined vehicle will rev higher and that uses more fuel as higher revs in a small engine can use more volume of fuel mix than a larger engine

In other words the cc of fuel mix burned in a given time frame will become more important - or a 1 liter car at 3k revs will intake more cc's of fuel than a 2 liter car at 1200 revs

It depends on the compression rate, for starters....

That is incorrect. A smaller engined vehicle weighs less, has fewer cylinders, smaller cylinders, smaller valve ports, takes less energy to move and accelerates faster than it's larger counterpart.

That ignores the lower efficiency of a high revving engine which wastes power as it reaches the peak of its rev range while the larger engine is still running at optimal revs

Actually, there was no activity at all for almost three hours before you posted that.

So really, it all of a sudden became very dead.. is more like it.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that I had to reply straight after another poster, I thought this was a forum. I'll remember that for next time, thanks for the tip.

That's coz I took wifey to hospital in Madison

It was even more entertaining than VJ in that waiting room

A middle aged woman with a huge cannabis tattoo on her ankle which was stretched and faded (the tattoo too)

I bet that seemed like a good idea in the 80's

Then 2 police officers brought a black man up in the elevator

He was handcuffed and shackled like in those slave ship movies set in the 1700's

I have been in a lot of English jails, but never seen slave-shackles for real

Hope she's OK. At least you had some free entertainment!

I saw two people in shackles when I entered on the K-1 visa, it was a great welcome to USA.

Yeah ta she's ok - she's young chick so she isn't creaking yet

When I first arrived in Washington State, I saw them dragging an Indian woman down the road in chains and shackles and handcuffs

She was about 110lbs

It was like a scene out of the middle ages and I will never forget it

I can only conclude that the geographical isolation of America makes it impossible for Americans to realize how the world has moved on, and so it still seems 'normal' to drag people around in slave shackles

I spent 6 years in the police force very many moons ago, and I moved some big criminals around, but never needed more than handcuffs. I can only conclude its a hang over from the plantations

I'm not sure why the kids in the airport were shackled either. Perhaps it is part of their scare tactics? American police are good frightening the life out of everyone!

They are actually paramilitaries

That is why they shave their hair and walk round looking threatening covered in guns and badges

I often shoot with them at the range and they try and look as thuggish as possible. They do have machine guns.

Actually, when you see some of the people they have to deal with, you can understand it

But it's not policing as we know it Spok

It's almost as if it's a foreign country......hum....

At least you're on their good side.

The police here have to deal with some very dangerous situations, I respect that. Yesterday evening I was waiting for my husband in my car in an unused parking lot. I wasn't doing anything wrong, but when the cops drove by I got really scared that they'd think I was doing something fishy and come and yell at me. UK cops don't have the same level of respect at all, they should take a leaf out of America's book. Shackles for all!

I can remember when I was in Leeds City Police and I got called to a riot at a big pub

Three hundred people going at it in the car park

I got out of the car (Vauxhall Viva), looked at then sternly, and told them to be quiet and go home

I was alone

They did. I expected them to. They could feel my confidence and they just did.

I was 19 and a virgin

Wouldn't like to try that in Milwaukee on a Saturday night
