I'm from Connecticut and I've lived in Bristol. My first month there I had no clue what the old Brizzle types were saying to me, and I found it disconcerting that everyone called me "me lover."

I don't sound like a Bristolian. I do sound a little like a female version of Thurston Howell III if he spent several months a year in the Valley.

 Cheers drive!

I haven't heard any American accent that sounds like Bristolian either.

Far from a "love it or leave it" arguement. It's more of a "if you liked it better where you came from, and insist that the US is lagging behind, then please go back there rather than insisting we change to suit your needs".

You know what I find amusing. So many people from so many different countries come to the US to find a better life for themselves and their families, more than any other country on earth. Once they get here and achieve their goal, their next step is to try and change the US into the country they left in the first place. Well screw that!

We all aspire to have as much knowledge about the Industrial Revolution as you do.

as a fellow ct yankee .. i'm glad i was taught by people who grew up learning the kings english. it turned out to be rather helpful in understanding friends across the pond.

it was also amusing to watch my uk coworkers gawk at me during a meal ... they were totally befuddled as to how i learned to eat properly ....

Surely your table manners must be French, unless you are left-handed like me, in which case we favor a more Monegasque etiquette.

That weird effete New England accent originated in Bristol, which is why Neil Hamilton and Bette Davis almost sounded British at times. I watch enough Corrie so that I can get a rough idea of what is being said when I hear an Englishman. I've been called many things, most of them aren't suitable for public discourse. biggrin.gif

The british armed forces have their own elections?

Or would you be confusing the armed forces with the larger electorate?

The British armed forces fought for a better life - Churchill wanted more war - against Russia this time

The Military said no and their families said no and the population as a whole said NO

No warmongers

Houses/healthcare/education

This of course is the opposite of what the rightos want

they want WAR and NO Co-operation or reciprocal help in society

ps Chamberlain was a CONSERVATIVE not a wet liberal

Isolationism does that, think of the Quebecois and compare it to modern French.
