I was of the understanding that the English as spoken in America, especially in the American south, is much closer to the way the language was spoken in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In has been the rest of the English speaking world where the language has devolved.

Really? The US has blazed it's own path to be the worlds most prominent super power in just over 200 years. What other "first world country" as you so put it, can make any such claim? We led the world in the industrial revolution and blazed the path for the technology age. Some of the greatest minds and greatest inventions in history have come from the US. During those 200 plus years, the US has both kicked Englands ####### and saved Englands #######. All of Europe would be speaking German today if it wasn't for the US. Your comment is as ignorant as you are. Quite honestly, I'm not sure why you want to remain in a country that you view to be so slow in catching up with the rest of the world. If it's that much better out there, then by all means, go. Wouldn't it be so much easier for you to go back to your "first world country" and die in peace there, than try to change a foreign land into the country you left?

Sounds like the "my country love it or leave it" argument to me. I remember my history now, George Washington single-handedly defeated Cornwallis at Yorktown, HELL if I recall my Americun History he took the super soldier formula and pinned Hitler and Hirohito after bodyslamming them through a table. The USA is still the land of opportunity, it does attract some terribly driven and clever people but it's far from perfect.

The modern numerals 1, 2, 3, ..., are sometimes called "Arabic" numerals in the West because they were introduced to Europeans by Arab merchants. The key figure was the great Persian mathematician Muhammed ibn-Musa al-Khwarizmi, who taught at Baghdad sometime between 800 and 850. He wrote a book on the Hindu number system known today only in a later Latin translation as De numero indorum, "On the Hindu numbers." In 1202, Leonardo of Pisa (ca. 1180-1250) published a famous book Liber abaci explaining and popularizing the Hindu-Arabic system, the use of the zero, the horizontal fraction bar, and the various algorithms of the Algebra. (Leonardo is better known today by his patronymic Fibonacci, "son of Bonaccio.") Thereafter modern numerals and the standard operations of arithmetic were commonly used by scholars, but Roman numerals continued to be used for many purposes, including finance and bookkeeping, for many centuries to come.

I assume you are conveniently eliminating all forms of dialect and pidgin from this analysis?
