You still haven't told us precisely how "other first world countries" have "dragged" this country through the debate and passage of PPACA.

My point is that virtually all social advances in the US have been preceded and pioneered by other first world countries - notably the UK

This allowed the US to see how it was going there and to finally catch up

I know that a mantra of the right is that no other country matters and we never take notice of them or do as they do in anything - no matter how small.

If the French found the secret of eternal life, we would reject it because it's French

In fact this is an urban myth and as Winston Churchill (right wing icon) said

"The USA always does the right thing eventually - after it's tried everything else"

His mother was American so he had some insight into the mind-set

Find one social advance in the USA that was not pioneered elsewhere ?

That doesn't work because right wingers see all social advances as social degeneration - they want the cave and the club and might is right and the weak should die. Ironic that they are usually followers of christ at the same time.

Now they are feeling the might of public opinion with Barry the man up 8% in the swing states and the supreme court siding with progress

This is a different statement and it's one I am much more inclined to agree with. Other first world countries set examples, America watches and learns and has a lengthy internal debate and eventually follows. Yes, I do think this is (for the most part) true.

However, I would like to see you admit that your initial statement that other first world countries "dragged" America into things like the PPACA was hyperbolic nonsense.... the kind of thing you'd hear in a low class bar room ;)

The spectacle therefore afforded us by the United States is one of technical brilliance and social blindness.

Things don't change much in 60 years

Face it, girls, I'm older and I have more insurance. (Tawanda/Kathy Bates in 'Fried Green Tomatoes', 1991.)

I speak American.

It is almost the same thing. English is like American, without the improvements.
