As good as America is, it can be better. Immigrants bring diversity of thought, they help the rest of us do a better job of thinking out of the box when it comes to solving problems. It is only natural that in any country (or any organization) a certain form of thinking sets in and becomes difficult to dislodge. This is why bringing in outsiders (immigrants, or in the case of organizations consultants) works to break the mold and help us all think of solutions we may not have thought of on our own.

This is not something to be feared. It is to be welcomed.

So put aside your socialism labels and just listen. They may have something useful to say, you never know.

Here Here!

He doesn't read posts, so he isn't going to get what we are saying. :P

I came to the conclusion during the last election, people who vote for the republicans are rich and or racist. There is no other reason to support them.

On the day of my wedding I had to listen to my hairdresser talking to some woman about how black people had nothing before Katrina, apparently after Katrina they were handed the world on a plate, and they didn't deserve it. If they hadn't been in a place of employment they would have dropped the n-bomb for sure, people do that freely here without a care. I had just moved here so I wasn't sure what to do about this very offensive conversation, so I sat and tried not to listen to it. My husband got very angry when I told him, it didn't turn out well for her. She was poor trailer trash, not sure why she thought she was any different than anyone else who isn't rich.

There seems to be some kind of confusion over wanting to be rich and actually being rich. I saw a bumper sticker recently, I wish I had taken a picture of it. I forget the exact wording but it said that universal healthcare was "trickle up poverty". This person had a vehicle that was probably 10 years old and was doing their own groceries, clearly they aren't rich. There really are some stupid people out there. How can this possibly be a bad thing?

That is something else I've also come across in the deep south. Poor people who vote Republican, vote Republican because they honestly believe one day they will be rich just like their counterparts in congress. They suck up to the rich big time and vote completely against their own best interests economically because their social issues and beliefs take on much more importance in their lives. Even if means them remaining dirt poor for the rest of their lives clinging onto some fantasy that soon they will become one of them.

Poor Teddy, clearly he didn't do well in history class.

The Industrial Revolution was a period from 1750 to 1850 where changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, transportation, and technology had a profound effect on the social, economic and cultural conditions of the times. It began in the United Kingdom, then subsequently spread throughout Western Europe, North America, Japan, and eventually the rest of the world.
The technological and industrial history of the United States describes the United States' emergence as one of the largest nations in the world as well as the most technologically powerful nation in the world. The availability of land and labor, the diversity of climate, the ample presence of navigable canals, rivers, and coastal waterways, and the abundance of natural resources facilitating the cheap extraction of energy, fast transport, and the availability of capital all contributed to America's rapid industrialization following the United Kingdom's Industrial Revolution.

ok so now it's going the way of all VJ political discussion.

When the right wing see they are being beaten by logic, they arrive en mass and accuse the other side of being mentally ill or drunk or smoking cannabis or all three

It seems this discussion has now reached this stage and I just wonder why it took so long as they have been losing for many pages now - right since the announcement yesterday actually

This is comical in of the poster you aimed it at. I guess us slow Americans still haven't reached first world posting status either.

B.S. People move into a neighborhood and want to change things right away. So lame. Maybe they should have stayed home, where things were just how they liked them, or, STFU and remember why they moved in the first place. Maybe things were not as good as they remember them being, or they are just getting buyers remorse. It happens in my rural area all the time. Folks move here to escape urban blight, and have a hard time adjusting. So they start complaining, hold town meetings, and try to change things that are the way they are for a reason. It is quite entertaining, yet very annoying. Eventually they mellow out, and are the first to complain about the next wave of newbies.

Listen, I understand that reading comprehension is not one of your strong points, but why do you insist on continuously embarrassing yourself like this?

Exactly, what a complete load of bunk that was, as soon as Reganomics was introduced the rich got more richer and the poor/middle class remained stagnant despite an increase in productivity year upon year. The biggest con in US History and Republicans today still toe the line on it.
