By the way (in addition to my scalawag Norman ancestors and countless other interesting characters from various and sundry lands) I am part dirty Irish as well (and I mean REAL Irish from Golden, Ireland in the hinterlands of Tipperary.)

Of course, they teach us from when we are mere babes to oppose foreign occupations.

SNAP - I have great grandad from Ireland - A certain Michel Casson (grandmother's dad)

A runaway sheep thief from Dublin

But anyway, this crazy stuff about deporting a quarter million protestants by torturing them to reveal their religion ....

Using that logic, the Mexicans would demand Texas back and all fair skinned people should be put on cattle trucks to Louisiana

I find it very primitive to think like that and go in for ethnic cleansing.

The English are in the process of having their country taken over by Pakistan and there is NO WAY that people of Pakistani origin will not be the majority in England in 200 years and Islam will be the majority religion and the MP's will be majority Moslem. NOTHING can stop that.

There is no setting the clock back unless we emulate Idi Amin who rounded up the Asians, robbed them and threw them out

It's good that the Irish have turned their back on all that and only a few Americans of Irish decent are still ignorant and backward enough to be banging that drum

I think the Palestinian tactics of out-breeding the jews should work and force the issue and I am sure American jews will not emigrate to Israel to try and even up the numbers.

It shows "make love not war" in a whole new context

All this oil and gas that is being discovered in the USA is very good news for the middle east

Less revenue but less interference and the unsinkable aircraft carrier that is Israel will lessen in importance

One of my lot apparently was wanted for some sort of crime or had to "disappear" for some reason... one year he was in the census, and the next he had mysteriously vanished from the scene. However, later the same year of his disappearance, his 3 brothers got on a ship to the U.S. along with person who had never been mentioned in family records who gave his name as "Oliver Cromwell same-Irish-surname." Must have been his idea of a joke...

Anyway, who said anything about deporting a quarter million Protestants ? Not me.

But even if a quarter million Americans moved to England and settled in, they wouldn't have the right to carve off a chunk and turn it into the 51st U.S. state.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

One day you will understand the parallels to what has happened in Palestine.

...and yet when the USA carves a piece of Mexico off and calls it Texas - that's ok ?

What is the difference between the two situations apart from the Texans don't dance with rag arms ?

I wasn't being snarky - I said it in all sincerity.

When you get the Texans out of the part of Mexico they stole, we will consider your request to get your bog back

Ya I know, but I knew you were going to tie it in together. I was trying to avoid that one.

Please don't insult me by insinuating I'm Irish or even Catholic at that. Lutheran here... Frisian/Norwegian on my dads side and Scot/Frenchie on my mom's side.

Texas was not part of historic Mexico; Mexico kicked out its Spanish occupiers in 1821 and then claimed Texas. However, the people who lived in Texas didn't want to be part of Mexico (and many of these Texans were of Mexican heritage - they had left Mexico because they didn't want to live there.) Mexico held Texas for just 15 years; the Texans fought them and defeated them by 1836, and declared Texas an independent republic.

That would be the difference.

Nice tune. So is this one -

Well we can't ask them now can we ?

The point is that if we try to unravel military annexations all over the world, even those from many hundreds of years ago, and then forcibly put the present inhabitants on cattle trucks to gas chambers, then that would be as daft as it sounds

The US is in the most vulnerable position of any country when it comes to seizing another people's country by military force (The USA)

If might is right then we Brits should just take back Southern Ireland. 4 million of them, 60 million of us - and we have thermo-nuclear weapons and they haven't

The Southern Irish realize that so its only a few Americans of Irish descent who are groping for an identity, and assorted frustrated Brit haters the word over, who are still interested

Texas was their own gig...with the help of volunteers of course. But the US did purchase a lot of land from France and Russia...it was Mexico that we punked. :D

Can't ask who, and can't ask them what ?

I am against ethnic cleansing; I thought that was quite clear from my posts. But I don't have sympathy for cleansers who claim they are victims and try to justify preventing the cleansed from reclaiming their homes and property.

I think you greatly underestimate the number of Americans of Irish descent who sympathize with the occupied. There are some 36 million Americans of Irish descent, and another 3 million who call themselves Scotch-Irish. However, despite your sour little snipe, we are well aware of our identity as Americans while at the same time being proud of our heritage.
