I have to say this is one of the few times I've felt sorry for the queen. You can just see by the look on her face that she'd rather be walking across hot coals to sleep on a bed of nails. Eighty odd years of etiquette practice can't pull off that smile convincingly. She probably threw the gloves away as soon as she was out of sight.

Unfortunately if we go by history, it will all be meaningless in short order. A peace agreement with the IRA isn't worth the toilet paper it's printed on.

I totally agree. I'm sure she didn't want to do this, but it was part of her duty.

Iv'e read enough of your post on here to know that you have a better take on history than that. Do you think a majority of the people in northern Ireland woke up one day and said to themselves; "Lets convert to Protestantism and change our loyalty from Ireland to Britain" ?

They are about as Irish as someone living in Glasgow.

They have the same right of self determination as the Americans had in 1776 or the Falkland islanders have today.

They stay in Northern Ireland for the same reason the Americans don't get out, go back where they came from hundreds of years ago, and leave it to the American Indians

The Indians gave up the fight long ago, but not the Irish. It's not over yet by a long shot. When Ireland is whole again then it will be over and done but not until then.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

You don't think so? You have a recent pic in this thread with the Queen of England shaking hands with a well known IRA leader. Try getting with the program here.

Why try and conquer a population that doesn't want them ?

Haven't they got enough coast line ?

They were beaten fair and square and that is why they gave up and surrendered

The IRA are like the militias in the US and are a bunch of crazies with crazy ideas

What would they do, deport a quarter million people based on their religion ?

Crazy idea

Heck if the US does that then Poland should expect a big influx of returning Poles from Chicago

Not to change the topic here, but you aren't much of a debater by a long shot. Do you have google search, or better yet do you know how to use it? Here let me help you once again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effects_of_Hurricane_Katrina_in_New_Orleans

Effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans

In the City of New Orleans, the storm surge caused more than 50 breaches in drainage canal levees and also in navigational canal levees and precipitated the worst engineering disaster in the history of the United States.[3] By August 31, 2005, 80% of New Orleans was flooded, with some parts under 15 feet (4.6 m) of water. The famous French Quarter dodged the massive flooding experienced in other levee areas. Most of the city's levees designed and built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers broke somewhere, including the 17th Street Canal levee, the Industrial Canal levee, and the London Avenue Canal floodwall. These breaches were responsible for most of the flooding, according to a June 2007 report by the American Society of Civil Engineers.[4] Oil refining was stopped in the area, increasing oil prices worldwide.

I have asked you this several times, why do you keep bringing up New Orleans? Was that the only place that Katrina hit? I think this is the 6th time I have asked you this now.....................

Also, I didn't read your post. :)

Those people aren't even Irish. They are nothing more than English and Scottish ragamuffins who cried to Parliament for more troops when the Irish were giving it to them but good.

That's your answer? Why are you even taking the time to post on this thread?

Sorry Kip, I assumed it was another of your baiting posts. That's what happens when you become known for that kind of thing. Nobody wants to take the time to give a serious answer.

I do notice you have a slightly different tone on this thread than say your typical "Islamic terrorist" thread. You're not one of those closet IRA supporters are you? I know there are more than a few in the USA.

Why would I read the garbage you spew out? You think hurricanes don't have winds? You don't read anything I say, so I will treat you the same bad attitude. You still haven't answered how a massive dam would prevent winds of 175mph. In fact you haven't done anything apart from denigrate the south. Glad you hate it here, don't ever visit.

You don't know anything about Europe, clearly.

English, French, Dutch, Danes, Scots, Germans, Norwegians, Swedes, etc.. all have similarities and bonds that tie together in one way or another.

Like what?

I was mostly just baiting Bad_Daddy. :P I agree with you, although there are differences in Christianity, Catholics vs Protestants, Huguenots etc. I don't think there is a culture of "Europe" as is being claimed. Each country is very different.

Now go play in OT with the rest of that bunch. If your lucky you can find one of the 1000000 meaningless game threads on there to keep you busy.

For how long do we carry the hatred and animosity? And to what end?

The irony for me, I'm a car Guy, was that BMW owned Austin/Leyland at some point in time. And we had German BMW Managers working in Longbridge - gasp.

The Queen did right, shaking hands doesn't mean anything.
