Expedites are very difficult to earn and you have to have specific proof that you meet the criteria. What would your reason for expedite be?

Generally, right now, the K1 seems to take between 8-10 months without an expedite.

Expedites are only for very rare and special cases.99.9% do not qualify.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

It is very rare for them to expedite petitions unless there is a situation with military deployment. Thats the only situation that I have seen.

As far as time frame, its about 5-6 months from the time you file for USCIS to approve the petition. Then its sent to the National Visa Center (NVC) which can take 2-4 weeks and then its sent in the US Embassy in your fiance's country. This could take anywhere from 1-3 months for them to be able to get an interview date. They HAVE to go for an interview to be able to get their visa fully approved. There is also a medical that has to be completed. If there are any children that your foreign fiance has that are coming to the US with them, they would all need to have medicals and be at the interview too. So there is a potential for there to be traveling costs for this interview as well. (My fiance lives 8 hours from where the Embassy is).

Keep in mind the filing fee is $340. Plus any medical costs, paperwork you need to get together. There is a cost for the visa itself. Depending on the country your fiance lives in. Then you have 90 days to get married. Then you must file the AOS petition which I think is $1070. Please corret me if I'm wrong. Then its waiting.

The worst part is waiting. Good luck though. And inbox me if you have any more questions.

Hmm, what valid health reasons would there be for requesting an expedite for a K1 visa...

I have CP and it would improve the quality of my life, like I said a long shot

^ this, as military I considered this route but it doesn't shave THAT much time so we went the normal way. Honestly dude, it is a long time but having watching these forums for nearly a year its kind of a blessing in a weird sort of way. The wait seems to make most couples stronger believe it or not, and the others, well in my mind if your relationship isnt strong enough to survive two weeks of paper work and 9 or 10 months of waiting the odds are it wouldn't have lasted a lifetime either.

Believe me I have seen a whole lot of cruddy people reveal themselves over the wait time, better to find out this way IMO!

How did you go about this? My finace lives in Turkey close to the Syrian Border and was wondering about applying for this.

Thanks,

Oh wow. I'm sorry to hear that. I am glad he is OK!!

To the original poster, I know we all wish we could expedite simply because of the extended wait, but try to be positive about it. The extended wait gives you time to really get to know each other, and prepare for interview and get finances in order. I myself have had two surgeries during this process -_-
