Wow, way to cut it deep. I'd appreciate if you tone it down a bit since I'm just here to help a friend who said her fiance's visa's expiration is August 4. When you mentioned the "calculation", I checked it upon myself so it turned out it's August 2 instead of August 4. For the record, I took her word for the expiration date since she's the one getting married, not I.

Church of Christ. You can visit incmedia.org :)

I am a member of a Church of Christ and we acknowledge marriages not performed within the church. You must have mistaken it for The Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints then that is a different ball game.

No, if you are talking about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, marriages performed outside of the church are recognized. Any legal marriage is recognized by the church.

Hello Darnell,

Thanks for the response but we're not allowed to get married in a courthouse. No exceptions.

As for the US Calendar math, sorry - not my strongest suit.

Couldn't you marry at the courthouse for immigration purposes and then with a minister to satisfy the requirements of your religion?

it is a requirement of the visa to be married within the 90 days, obviously they knew this. And then you went on to say that they can get married in July by their minister long before the 90 days is up. Why are they even attempting to go beyond the time limit? To me money isn't an excuse as they can easily have a party at a later date when they do have the money. It will by far cost them more if they wait beyond the 90 days window. They would be just causing themselves more headaches by waiting beyond the 90 day window IMHO yes.gif

No matter what if you are outside the 90 days you are illegal and cannot file AOS. This is a US Government requirement, good luck.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

I don't know which state this individual is in or the specific regulations there. But, there is a lot of middle ground between a courthouse and a big wedding. If the location is a problem: get the marriage license, find out when the minister (or other person qualified to officiate) is available to meet with you briefly, go to the location of your choosing with the officiant and any required witnesses, have a simple ceremony, turn in the paperwork, and then go all out with the big shebang on August 2 or 4 or whenever.

A marriage doesn't have to be accompanied by a big party and the presence of everyone you know to be legal. After having gone through all of the regulatory hurdles to get over here in the first place, it would be a pity to decide to prioritize satisfying precise religious requirements over satisfying regulatory hurdles and risk throwing all of that time/effort away.

It is strictly a legal formality, from the sound of it the choices are go get the courthouse paperwork together or risk busting the marriage window. I dont mean any offense, but I doubt your God would hold this one against you...after all, if you are faithful to your religion the courthouse deal doesn't carry meaning to you anyway. The religous ceremony is what binds you, the courthouse deal is just to make Uncle Sam smile.

Not quite. They can still file for AOS, but would have to file the I-130 concurrently. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/375079-get-married-a-day-before-i-94-expires-90th-day/page__view__findpost__p__5488080

Anyway it is a moot point because the OP already stated they decided to get married July 7th instead.

Just was commenting on their applied for action, not the fix, thanks. Seems like some just need to fight the system.

Easy to follow the rules, I don't get it.

I suppose. Anyone getting a K-1 should know they have to marry within 90 days of entry to the US, and it appears this couple was able to be married well within the 90 days all along. Oh well, they are following the rules now, so all is good I guess. I don't get it either.
