Hey Guys, I'm a bit nervouse here. First off let me say that our marriage is completely bonafide. We Are married and love each other (although not always like each other). But our situation may seem suspicious to outsiders especially a USCIS officer.

My wife and I met in August of 2010, and i fel completely in love with her. I was previously married. I got married in 2003 when I was 19 and we got divorced in 2007. My current wife USC has been married 3 times before and is 16 years my senior. She has 2 teenage sons that live at home with us but they aren't mine. And one adult son that doesn't live with us. The two at home are in High School. All of her previous husbands have been abusive to her and the kids. All 3 of her sons accept our marriage. Her last divorce was finalized shortly before we got married. But we've been living together since November 2010. I'm afraid that this situation will look suspicious to USCIS. I've met her mother and she visit our home often to spend weekends. My wife told me I shouldn't me nervous because our marriage is bonafide. But I'm afraid of the way it looks. If we do get denied at our interview what are our other options. She said if we have to we will go back to our country to live but that is not our first option. We would like to be here in the USA. My dream is to one day be a Citizen. We were both born in the same country (Trinidad). But she is a naturalized citizen. I'm sorry for rambling on but I'm extremely nervous. Any thoughts to calm my nerves would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Andrew.

IMHO you are correct when you say that your situation may look suspicious. You need to keep that in mind, but not to the point where it should make you come unhinged.

You can calm down based on the fact that your marriage is not a sham. That alone is a great asset and should form the basis of your attitude towards the entire process.

Having said that, make sure you gather evidence of your relationship, such as pictures, bills, contracts, bank accounts, tax returns, and all other mundane set of papers couples normally have in their household.

If you want to be on the safe side, get affidavits of family, neighbors, employers and others who may vouch to the effect that you are a family and that your marriage is real. Remember auto & health insurance cards that link you together. In essence all those documents that tie your financial lives together as a couple.

Most important of all, it that when you are called for interviews and other face-to-face interactions with immigration, remember that you are not doing anything wrong and let that set your tone of voice and demeanor, lest your anxiety be misconstrued.

Good luck with your journey!

Thank you for your response. We can't have bank accounts and all that stufff together since I don't have a social security number yet. That will change as soon as I get my EAD. We do have pictures together as well as with her mom, my mom. We got married at the Court House as money is tight especially raising two teenage boys.

If you do not have a SSN, you may be able to get an ITIN, which will allow you to have joint bank accounts and tax returns. The legislation regarding ITIN has changed so take a look at the IRS website and see if you qualify:

Already mentioned, but just to lay on how important it is... Proof! Pictures are important. Not just of you and her. Get pictures of her boys and yourself having fun. Moms and dads and grandpas all hanging out together. Any and all support you can show will not only make your case look better for the USCIS officer going over the case, but also it should help give you some relief. Any documents with both of your names on it can also help. If you both are on the same bowling league, take pictures and show proof! Validity is very important. Since it sounds like that is what you have, you should be good. Just keep an open heart and proof proof proof.

Good luck~

May the power of love be with you

We have tons of pictures with me and the boys. Not so much of me and her. But we do have a wedding album and could probably fill two albums with our pictures of the two years we've been together.
