Hello all,

Once my fiance enter in the country can he get a SSN or do we have to get married first? Yes. Most people recommend to wait after 2 weeks of entry.

Will he be able to get a job with his K-1 visa? No. After you get married, he need to adjust his status- apply for his GC and EAD.

How soon can we apply for a SSN? recommendation is 2 weeks after his arrival to US soil.

Yes, he can apply for his SSN about 10-14 days after he enters the US. See this guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

No, you cannot work with just a K-1 visa. The K-1 will become null and void once it is used to enter the US. You will need to apply for adjustment of status after you are married and you can apply for the EAD(work authorization) and AP(re-entry permission when traveling outside the US) at the same time. It will take about 2 to 3 months to receive the EAD/AP. The green card approval is taking slightly longer than it used to and can take 4-6 months or longer to receive.
