It's amazing that conservatives all believe the same list

abortion

religion

global warming

universal health care

tax cuts for rich people

kill medicare

kill S Security

Kill medicaid

Its a universal list with no exclusions or additions

I pick and chose what I believe..

I believe in global warming ONLY because of the rate of change

All the CO2 junk etc etc can be argued with and picked holes in - it isn't safe science

I have a 3.5 liter car and fly to the UK 4 times a year and plenty of other places.

I am destroying the world and I know it and admit it

That makes me a bad man but at least I am not stupid in arguing against good science

THE RATE OF CHANGE - disprove that and you disprove the whole thing

Sadly, nobody can because THE RATE OF CHANGE is unprecedented and true

Why do people see solid evidence on THE RATE OF CHANGE and then their eyes glaze over and they go all Sarah Palin and their brain shuts down ?

But you're ignoring facts.

Fact - CO2 is a heat trapping gas

Fact - The earth's Carbon Cycle has a ceiling as to how much CO2 it can remove from the atmosphere

Fact - Fossil fuel emissions are adding more CO2 into the atmosphere than the earth's Carbon Cycle can handle

Fact - The earth's temperature is rising

Even a 3rd Grader with a basic understanding of science could reason that man-made Global Warming is real. There's no sleight-of-hand in those facts presented and the conclusion is obvious.

Secondly, while warming trends have happened in the past, they spanned over tens, even hundreds of thousands of years. The rise in the earth's temperature this time around is very sharp and continues to increase sharply. An overweight person can lose say 40-50 lbs over a several months and survive. However, if they tried to lose that much in just a week, their body would go into shock and they would die. Gradual vs. rapid. Huge difference.

Facts, schmacts.

For every fact, theres 1000 RWNJ blogs. Welcome to conservative America. Your facts are useless here!

I consider myself to be more of a Libertarian than I do a Conservative. I believe in being fiscally conservative but socially liberal. I believe in a womans right to chose and I don't believe in God. So we can dispell the "conservative list" you posted above in regards to my beliefs.

Listing the "rate of change" as you put it as your reasoning for believing in global warming is also a very disputed science. There are many articles by prominent scientist that say these numbers are greatly exaggerrated due the type of testing called "positive feedback" that does not give true readings in regards to the actual and projected rise in temperatures. There are no "eyes glazing over" on my part, I read both sides of the story and draw my conclusions based on what is presented. The problem with the pro global warming crowd is that they take whatever evidenceis fed to them and run with it, touting it as absolute truth, when in fact it's not. It has been proven that the numbers were exaggerated in the past, what makes you think it couldn't happen again?

To seize on a single purported exaggeration (since refuted) and use that to rubbish all the rest of the data is a biased way to approach the subject and reveals a preconception and a preference

I have a preference for global warming to be untrue because I am a carbon guzzler via lawn mowers/strimmers/motorcycles/cars/jet engines etc etc

and yet I don't allow this preference to color my take on the available evidence

I also note that the deniers often have an agenda involving god and extreme conservatism and those guys are as whacky as they get

If you are going to be a denier then you have to rub shoulders with those people. I am fortunate in that I am not a denier and therefore I don't have to share a bed with Mike Huckerbee

You chose to base your rebuttal on religious beliefs and extreme conservatism rather than scientific data and the way that data is obtained? Based on what you wrote, I would have to base my judgement of your beliefs on the fact that your rubbing shoulders with Al Gore. If that's the company you want to beassociated with, then all the power to you.

We are carbon based life forms and they are both fat - which shows an attempt by both to store carbon safely, albeit for different reasons

You are up against the world's scientists whereas I am up against a bunch of born again nut jobs south of the mason-dixon

You may have formed your opinion independently, but you have more weird company generally in your beliefs than I do

Had to Google that but I am relieved to learn it's my "environment" or more loosely "where I am coming from" rather than the "learning disability" that I at first assumed

I live in Madison WI which is environmentalist and starry eyed liberal central. The taxis are Priuses or Prii with cycle racks on them.

I blow them off with my 268 HP Toyota foot to the floor

I still own a house on a mountain top in Washington State, so while it's tough luck for the Bangladeshis, my feet will be dry up there with the survivalists

What's a glacier ever done for me anyway ? I saw them in New Zealand and they are a particularly dirty way to block off what could be a nice valley

Think I offered to buy her a drink in Montego Bay

I had had a few bottles with a bunch of yankee sailors and

she was third choice after them and a dead whale in the harbor
