Couple questions I have 1) why was this guy paying for email service when it is free everywhere? Perhaps his volume of kiddie pix was being stored there rather than his computer and he needed additions space?

IN another report it said this whole investigation was started when AOL folks saw the images - what are they doing snooping in Peoples Emails?

The Human Rights Commission not long ago dedicated a whole week to honor this "pioneer".

Larry Brinkin, S.F. Gay Rights Icon, Arrested on Child Porn Charges

(Update 3:30 p.m.): SF Weekly has obtained the search warrant, which details the items police seized from Brinkin and his husband's home. Those items include computers, videos, VHS tapes, and a floppy disc. Read details of the search warrant after the jump

Original story: Police say they arrested 66-year-old Larry Brinkin, the high-profile gay activist, on possession of child pornography on Friday night.

Brinkin, a community icon who led the fight for the city to recognize same-sex partnerships, was arrested and booked into San Francisco County Jail, police said.

He posted bail and was released Saturday, according to a jail spokesman.

Police Spokesman Officer Albie Esparza would only say that the case was still under investigation, and would give no more details at this time.

Brinkin retired from the Human Rights Commission in 2010, and has been a beloved member of the gay community, with the Board of Supervisors even declaring the first week of February as "Larry Brinkin Week." At the time of his retirement, he earned more than $135,000 yearly.

We put in a call to Theresa Sparks, executive director of the Human Rights Commission, told us this allegation is "beyond hard to believe."

"It's almost incredulous, there's no way I could believe such a thing," Sparks told us. "He's always been one of my heroes, and he's the epitome of human rights activist -- this is man who coined phrases we use in our daily language. I support Larry 100 percent, hopefully it will all come out in the investigation."

(Update 3:30 p.m.): According to the search warrant, SFPD acted after receiving a tip from the Los Angeles Police Department, which obtained from AOL an e-mail exchange between a Los Angeles user and zack3737@aol.com. Police say they linked the AOL address to Brinkin's IP address; he is owner of the account and paid for AOL service with his credit card.

The warrant claims these e-mails contained images of children as young as perhaps a year old being sodomized by and performing oral sex on adult men. Zack3737@aol.com -- whom the police allege is Brinkin -- provided graphic commentary on the photos of interracial adult-child sex. Comments included "I loved especially the n_gger 2 year old getting nailed. Hope you'll continue so I can see what the little blond ###### is going to get. White Power! White Supremacy! White ####### Rules!"

The AOL e-mail account was also linked to Yahoo! Groups centering around discussions of child porn, according to the search warrant. Investigators say they additionally found e-mails sent from Brinkin's now-defunct city e-mail account to zack3737@aol.com.

After looking at the fallout it's interesting to note this guy has more defenders than Mel Gibson.

Whenever someone gets caught up in something like this I always -What if the guy is found to be innocent, how can the damage ever be repaired?

Seems much more interesting that here you have a guy who was a top dog in a supposedly "civil rights" organizations (The Human Rights Commission).

IN my view these type of people come in all walks of life.

"If" I were out to demonstrate sexual predatory patterns, or to show that some segments of the population are more involved in this I would not pick one individual case, (which is meaningless) I would present statistical facts. But thats not what this thread is about and those types of facts are not allowed to be seen here, so try to focus.
