Sputum sample

Our son is required to submit a sputum sample for smear/culture. The problem is he is unable to produce sputum so the alternative is a 40,000php+ procedure at the ST Luke's hospital in QC. And he will have to do this sputum test twice, so needless to say its going to be an expensive way to get the samples. Has anyone else been in this situation or have any advice so our son can provide the samples and save us thousands of dollars? I know its more difficult for chidren but maybe someone who has had to get these samples can share how they were able to get their children to produce sputum for testing. Thanks.

Have you tried him do the coughing technique? This is how to get a sputum.

Cough and spit it out.

Ask your pediatrician,so he will teach you do the technique,this might save you

spending that much.I understand children needs to be assisted in getting

samples.

Do ask your pediatrician or doctor or other medical practitioners.

have him drink a lot of water before the sputum collection.. the same happened to me on my first day of the sputum collection... the guy who collects the sample told me to drink a lot of fluids before coming and so I did the next day... medyo nkakatuyo ng lalamunan getting the sputum out. My first day was a difficult one and spent nearly an hour to get the sample.
