I might be wrong...but I don't think it's the same thing. I think the police certificate is the subject access form, related to data protection act. I don't claim to fully understand it though...so hopefully someone else can help you better

2006

July 30th - sent off I-130s

August 7th - I-130s filed with USCIS and we receive our notification postcard a few days later

Nov 5th - sent in the DS-2001 part 1 and the DS 2001

Nov 6th - received our packet 3 stuff, which I took as I-130 approvals

Nov 13th - received packet 4 - interview scheduled for Dec 14th

Nov 20th - had medicals

Nov 24-ish - received our actual I-130 approvals, I have no idea why they took so long to arrive!

Dec 14th - interviews - approved!

Dec 16th - visas delivered

2007

Jan 13th - leaving party :( I will miss so many people!

Jan 19th - our travel date

Feb 20th - our baby's due date

Subject Access form is what you want.

To obtain a Police Certificate in the UK, go to your local police station and request a form called "Subject Access". Send send this with the ten pounds fee to the Data Protection Officer of the police force for the area you are resident in. This form is then sent by the police to Scotland Yard and the results are supplied to the individual requesting them within a statutory 40 day time limit. If you're waiting for your certificate try 0171-230-3751 to see what state it's at.

I've never see an Enhanced Disclosure form so don't know if it is the same or not. As far as I am aware the Enhanced Disclosure is done by a different organisation than the one that does the Police Certificate. My guess, and it is only that, is they are not the same. For the sake of £10 I'd request a certificate to be on the safe side. That will avoid any misunderstanding at the Embassy on the day of interview.

What to expect at the POE - WIKI entry

The enhanced disclosure is a CRB and is not the same thing - however, it should be useful when you go to the US if you need to do the same kind of work you do now.

The police check is an an A4 sheet of paper ( if no convictions on ) that has a blue line across the top and bottons stating National Identification Services Authentic Document.

Also know as a Section 7 Data Protection Act 1998 - Subject Access Letter

Not as lazy as those who don't bother to read the UK embassy page!

There's a forum where that can be mentioned & therefore changed.

The general info is still correct.
