passport at interview?

hi everyone, I am in a predicament where I have had to renew my south African passport (6month process) and my interview has come in for 31july.

so I won't have my passport for my interview day, although I did copy all pages before sending my old passport for renewal. has anyone had any experience with this situation ?

I did call uscis today and they said it "shouldn't" be a problem but that the officer will have to decide.

any thoughts are appreciated.

03/01/2007 - POE - JFK (L-1 Visa)

01/15/2008 - Proposed

03/15/2008 - Married

09/02/2008 - Sent AOS Package (I-130, I-485, I-693)

09/03/2008 - Received - Signed by SMITH

09/04/2008 - Checks deposited

09/10/2008 - Checks cleared ($1010 + $355)

09/12/2008 - 2 NOA's received (I-130, I-485) - Dated 09/08/08

09/16/2008 - Received notice for biometrics appointment on 09/30/2008

09/20/2008 - Biometrics done - Walk in (Orlando) Took 10 minutes

09/22/2008 - I-485 viewable online (pending, of course)

09/30/2008 - Biometrics Appointment (2pm)

12/30/2008 - Received Interview Letter

02/25/2008 - Interview

03/06/2008 - Welcome Letter received (the website will clearly never send me updates!)

Well IO's don't always ask to see your passport but there is no guarantee they won't. You could give it a try.

03-02-2012-- (09): bio appointment notice sent, bio date 03-15 (23)

If you still have the expired passport, take it with you, reason they SOMETIMES ask for it, to find out about your trips outside the country if any.

No need to worry.

No need to worry.

I don't have it unfortunately, SA requires it be handed in when renewing, that's why I made copies :)

For the Philippines they allow temporary extension of your passport, they actually recommended it for most because of the 6-month backlog for renewals. I got my passport extended one year and received the extended passport a day later.

south Africa does not adhere to this logic, it is only possible to get a temporary for emergency reasons, and it still takes weeks
