Welcome to VJ!

You might want to consider bringing him in on a K1 fiance visa and marrying here.... might be quicker than the K3, but you'd have to look at the comparative timelines on here and decide....

Best wishes,

Jen

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Hello Everyone:

My name is Charlotte and I am a new member. I see that there is a wealth of information out here and I am sure it will be useful/helpful to me and my fiance'

I am going to Nigeria at the end of this month and spending approx. 1 month there to spend some time with my fiance' and his family and we are getting married there as well and I have some questions that I can't seem to get answered by the US Consulate in Nigeria :( or maybe I need to direct them to Immigration. I hope someone can help me with this. :)

Once we are marred, I was wondering if he will be able to come back to the US with me right away. I realize that there are some forms that needed to be completed once we are married. My questions are: Are there any forms that I need to complete prior to leaving the US? Once we are married, what is he suppose to present at the Embassy? What Am I suppose to present at the Embassy? How long will it take for his Visa to be ready? and what fees are we expected to pay?

We are so in love (L) and I want him back in the States with me right away. Can someone please give me the answers that I am seekiing. and any other information that will be helpful to us.

Thanks so much

Hi LadyLove,

Welcome !

I am a new member also,But my journey is just begining.I met my Love 6 months ago online (of course now days)But I am heading to Nigeria for the first time Oct 26,2006.Very soon ! His whole family is very accepting. This will be the first step to the rest of our lives. We are planning for him to return a few months after I get back to the US. Not sure which Visa we will attempt. Visitor first so he can check out our universities to finish his masters. Than he'll return and apply for student visa. We have all the documents ready.

Us Citizenship for me,Financial,Invitation,Applications and letter from his university in Nigeria showing he will return in spring from his professor. The hardest we are having is showing his ties. We are both single, no children,he's not working due to recent college grad/Different race/I am 12 yrs older and his parents are in the Uk and other areas of Nigeria. Financial support for college is supplied by his father. I put all the documents organized/tabbed in nice folder...............seems most visa approvals I have read out of Lagos was a factor of facts and organization! We'll see !!!

Best of luck to you.

The consulate in Nigeria ceased Direct Consular Filing for nonresidents in 2003. You will need to file a petition for immediate relative (I-130) and, optionally, a K-3 petition (I-129F). He will not be able to return with you. You should prepare yourself for a lengthy wait. Look at the timelines here for Nigeria.

Thanks for the information. Is there a reason why they ceased direct filing there and is there a chance they will start it again?

1-The likelyhood of a visitor's (B class) visa is very low.

2- The likelyhood of a student visa is very low.

It's highly unlikely that nonresident DCF will be reinstated in Lagos.

The reason is put best by an immigration attorney I like:

As far as the government is concerned, the fraud scale from minimal to worse if "low, medium, high, Lagos." Don't ever forget that. Also, do NOT take anyone elses experience elsewhere as to what you experience will be. It will be a wild ride, but Lagos DOES grant visas contrary to popular perception. But you must be EXCRUCTIATINGLY honest -- because you going in with a presumption of dishonesty.
