You didn't get a 797 from USCIS when they first accepted your petition?

No, just a text and e-mail. Others had said that happened to them also.

Use the email process to request your MNL # from NVC (even if you do call) and when they repy your priority number will be in the email also. (you will want that number for completing the forms for the embassy)

Back when my wife did her medical, those that had the medical too close to the interview had their visa delayed until the medical arrived. I don't think they were allowing the hand carry option then. That was part of the reason we wanted my wife to have about two weeks between the interview and medical. Once a case was set aside because the medical had not arrived, they could get an even longer delay before the late arriving medical was matched up with the rest of the package and processed. If you can hand carry it, all the better. Once we had our NOA2 I was warning my wife to get ready with everything because it would suddenly all happen fast. Took about 4 weeks to get the embassy case number, but things seemed really fast between setting everything up and her flying here. Her sister, who she is very close with, was encouraging her to delay leaving for a month. But for the two of us, we'd been apart too long, so she just said I wouldn't be happy if she put off her flight to the USA.

Yes it is, if your embassy is the Manila embassy. You need the MNL case number to pay the Visa fee before you can schedule the interview appointment. Once you pay the fee, give it enough time to be processed into the system, you can make the appointment either online or by calling the embassy. Online is a bit easier, but there you need to enter the beneficiary's passport number where they ask for a number.

If St. Luke's feels they can not get the medical file to the embassy on time, they will have your fiancee hand carry it.

As for the MNL #, the embassy is the one that assigned that number to your packet, then they forward that number to NVC.

It never ceases to amaze me, how little I really know about this process, even though I have

spent hours and hours researching these forums. So the Manila Embassy actually receives our Original petition first... Assigns it a "Manila number" then sends that case number back to the NVC? So I should be contacting the Manila Embassy rather than the NVC to try to obtain the Manila #?

Regards,

Jesse

No, the embassy is notified that your petition is approved and at NVC and then the embassy assigns the MNL # after which NVC then forwards the original packet to Manila... IF NVC does not decide to do Additional Processing.

The numbers are sent to NVC electronically so I don't know that it makes too much difference. But NVC is the one to let you know they have actually send your file to Manila.

Don't worry, once you have it down, it will change so what you know won't work for those doing the same thing next year

Well parts will be the same, but other parts different. My wife had her K-1 interview last September, but already the process is morphing with slightly different procedures.
