Because an observation is a generalization doesn't invalidate it

If someone reported that England is drinking culture and the streets are full of drunks on a Saturday night - that would be entirely accurate but it wouldn't extend to me. (most times)

You and I know that the black community often use different names from the white community. How many white LeBron's are there ?

Nothing wrong with that at all but come on - if you call your insurance company and "DeShanuiqua" answers the phone, you have a 98% chance she will be black. I don't know why you want to deny that because it establishes an independent identity.

Similarly the black community do use different words. Words like "axe me a question". I use Yorkshire dialect like 'ey up arkid odonabit whistle atter think on" (Wait a while, we shall have to think about that)

It's much further from standard English than ANYTHING Al Sharpton ever came out with but it's a characteristic of my ethnicity and that's that

If you think Jesse Jackson is hard to understand, catch me when I with my own lot

So you see, what I was saying was the observations and generalizations of an outsider and I wasn't criticizing the black community any more than I was criticizing my own ethnicity which is rural left over from the Danes of the 900's

There is no such thing as a "Black community".

For this topic, I disagree. Pointedly. Well, to be certain, your USAGE of YOUR observations got invalidated, as you weren't able to stay on topic with the reversal of institutionalized multiculturalism in the Netherlands. Sorry. Better luck next time, next topic.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I don't see it veering off the topic really although I could be wrong. I mean England is kind of in the same predicament as the Netherlands and he looked to be giving his personal experience.

alas, his personal experience wasn't pertinent to the topic, and he opened up lots of 'other stuff', which other folk responded to, in kind.

A massive veer. The UK isn't setting the same 'bar' as the Netherlands for reversing multiculturalism. It really is that simple. His 'fork' in this topic , aiyo..

Ah you mean he threw a curve ball.

With that multiculturalism thing (we need a nickname for that word, it's way to long to type), I don't see how any of it can be reversed without closing the immigration gate on Muslims first, and then deport the ones there that refuse to integrate with Dutch society. The Netherlands would never hear the end of it if they went that far...at least not in the current EU political atmosphere. Times are changing though so who knows what will happen in another couple of decades from now.

The UK doesn't have Geert Wilders behind the scenes either (tis a pity imo) so I think that's why the UK has been so lackadaisical compared to Holland in tackling the problem it has in that regard. Geert Wilders has his backers and some of them have roots and I mean deep roots along with deep pockets and those backers don't just reside in Holland. If Geert Wilders was to ever run for president here in the good 'ol USA (if that was even possible) he would have my vote in a NYC second.

Ya, in essence, The Netherlands is thinking to 'crack down' and have everyone toe the line to Be Dutch. IMO, there's gonna be a lot of fallout about this, and as time goes on, you'll see Muslim enclaves with defined borders (we bought this land and building, we can do what we want).

I have some sense that IF the thing becomes law, the ENFORCEMENT of the law will cause a new slew of lawsuits.

Who knows? It might, indeed, be the big thing that causes an exodus. Libya is nicer now that Quaddafi is dead (sorry, that's how I learned to spell his name 20 years ago) and returning expats will have a great time in the new country if they bring ALL of their monies.

I wonder how many countries the size of the Netherlands would fit inside all the MENA countries. If the MENA countries can't get it together than I don't see those same people immigrating to another country and getting it together there either. Culture...it's all about culture and religion.

So many things have changed, though, in the last two years. In at least two countries, the leader was deposed (In Libya he was killed, in another country he opened the elections and he lost) so the 'landscape' back 'home' is actually very inviting - there be real government, real property and title laws for owning property again, and a fledgling court system that seems to be playing fair and NOT being tribal. So, I have this sense that if a mass exodus was to take place, the 'home country' doesn't look as bad now as two years ago. In fact, it's looking REALLY good, compared to two years ago.

re: culture and religion - I dunno, but I get some sense that if the religion is mostly similar, and the culture is at least half similar, then it makes sense to go to a country where things are booming (not bombs, this time) and is easy to fit in without a loss of cultural identity or relaxing of religious morals.
