You are just like all the other know-it-alls. You have no clue what you're talking about and you refuse to better your inaccurate knowledge, instead you just spout more of your opinions and state them as fact. Read my post instead of scanning the first paragraph.

Really? I point out that Romanian kids have it worse, then you quote a statistics saying the exact same thing. I'm sorry, but that only serves to enhance my know it all attitude!

If you had read the post rather than being a know-it-all you would have the answers to these questions. But no, just proclaim your opinion is fact rather than reading them. Typical.

IMHO you guys are talking about the same thing.

Everything is relative.

Abject poverty the US standards is different from 'abject poverty' in Romania.

By world standards being poor in the US does not entail as much dearth as being poor in other countries, but that does not sweeten the pot for those who are poor, does it?

It doesn't make it OK at all.

The term "relative child poverty" refers to a child living in a household where the disposable income is less than half of the national median income.
The US has the largest and most technologically powerful economy in the world, with a per capita GDP of $48,100.

Apparently this is too complicated for some people to comprehend.

I find it very perplexing that this weak argument is that if children die in a country that has the largest and most technologically powerful economy in the world, it doesn't matter because in other countries they have less money? What an empty argument.

In Mississippi, a child dies before his or her first birthday every 20 hours.

This is the highest infant mortality rate in the country. It's OK though, because Romania is poorer? Romania is not a country with the largest and most technologically powerful economy in the world. Peter_Pan is pulling a Danno and comparing apples and oranges.

$500? It's 10% here...

10 percent of what?

The value of the home.

I doubt that, because it's less than 2% in New Jersey - the highest property tax state in the nation.

Property Tax Estimator

10%. That would be insane! To put in perspective the mansion that just sold for $42 million in New York has property taxes of $145,000. Not even a half of a percent in property taxes.

15% of children in Mississippi live in extreme poverty, you should ask them what it means.

Children's Defense Fund - Children In Mississippi 2012

If you would like to read more about poverty, you should read this:

What do you expect, I mean come on your talking about the South. Land of obesity, illiteracy, poverty, FEMA trailers, and people that live on government handouts.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
