While I'm already set in my beliefs, I don't mind when people from other religions try to get me to "think more like them". I understand that they truly believe that they are doing something good for me. So, while they are a little annoying, they honestly have the best of intentions.

I don't think my beliefs (or in my case, my LACK of beliefs) are really anyone's business, though. I understand they think they're helping, but it's not up to them to "help" me. They don't know me. My not beliving in God has no impact on their lives whatsoever, so I'm not sure why they seem so intent on changing my mind.

I don't mind the people who are respectful about it as much. If a "not interested, thank you" is enough to send them on their way, then I'll forgive the very minor annoyance. But when people don't take no for an answer, and try to tell me that if I would just open my eyes and accept Jesus that I would have a happier life ... I get irritated. I'm perfectly happy. I don't need fixing.

What is also irritating is when atheists go on and on about how stupid religious people are(I'm not referring you)

I have several answers to offer 'those' types...

- I had no idea he was lost. (As to whether I have found Jesus)

- He is mowing the front lawn (As to whether Jesus is in my life.)

- I accept Visa, MC, AX, Discovery and cash, obviously. (As to whether I accept/have accepted Jesus)

- Yes, in his iPhone and client roster. (As to whether Jesus has saved me.)

At Mardi Gras some man cornered me and refused to let me leave while he tried to lecture me on the bible. Only problem was he couldn't remember the passage he was trying to quote and ordered some kid to bring him a bible so he could find it. My husband was parking the car, when he saw this man being highly aggressive and refusing to let me leave he got very angry with him. He finally let me go after being confronted by him. This is typical of the Christians I encounter here. I have never had an atheist do that to me.

Don't bring up religion and they won't be able to do it. It's pretty simple.

Agreed. I don't think anyone's stupid based on their religious beliefs. If people want to live God-loving lives, attend church every Sunday, pray every night, then so be it. I hope they live happy, fulfilled lives. Just ... don't try to convince me that your way is the right and only way, and we'll get along just fine.

Boring for you, maybe, but at least on immigration matters, they are usually accurate, as opposed to, let's say, generally inaccurate.

You are very inaccurate. You make racist comments, those are accurate? Insulting a whole state, that's accurate? No. You are boring and very arrogant.

I definitely agree with you. If people approach me and I politely decline to listen to them, I'd like them to politely go away. I'd even argue that those who are combative in their approach push people away from religion rather than convincing them of anything.

Exactly. Jehovah's witnesses always leave when you say no thank you. I don't know what that man at Mardi Gras was thinking but it certainly didn't make his Christian organization look good. Bullying women who are standing on their own, refusing to let them leave, will not send you to heaven.

I don't doesn't bother me too much, but I think those (Jehovah's Witness, LDS) who come to people's door are preying on people who tend to be weaker minded. The ordeal can be very intimidating, but I know that most of those doing it are sincere. I just wish those religions would realize the most effective way to impress upon someone is by example, rather than telling them.

Leading by example is not a trait any you see in the major religions....

Well, there are distinctions. For example, the Mormons and the Jehovah's Witness believe in a very literal view of proselytizing from the Bible. It doesn't make sense in today's world where most everyone has access to information so it would be almost impossible to find anyone who hasn't heard about Jesus. The Catholic Church does have modern missionaries, like the Maryknolls, whose focus is to help poor people and work for justice. They were the ones that were found murdered in places like South America. While they might talk about God, they believe in proselytizing by their actions rather than their words.

Actually it does, it comes with the duties of a good Christian to try and convert as many as possible.
