Anyone can apply for a tourist visa. They are not sponsored. There isn't anything that you can do other than send them (parents) an invitation letter that they can show at the interview. The applicant must show the officer that they have strong ties to home.

Every person applying for a visa is assumed to have immigrant intent. Your parents must prove that that are not using a visitor visa to move to the US.

You cannot request a specific time limit visa the Consulate officer will decide what visa to issue (single entry or multiple entry) and for what time frame.

Documents proving ties to there home country(bank records, employment records, real estate title, etc). There is no specific list and the officer may not even look at it. It is within his or her sole discretion to approve or deny a visa and there is no set of documents or answers that can guarantee a visa approval.

A ten year visa may be issued but again it is at the sole discretion of the interviewing officer.

My mother in law was denied the first time, approved for a single entry the second time and approved for a 5 year multi-entry the third time.

Yes
