What was it like to see him for the first time?

I wouldn't say most since a lot of ppl met in person. Also, exchanging photos isn't much different than using webcams. Its still sharing what you look like online only not in real time. Personally, I felt more comfortable seeing my intended in real time because A. I knew that was really him (voice and face matched and all) and B. I don't feel safe putting a photo of myself out there like that. Just in case he turned out to be a creeper.

Well, I am really not speaking for all people, but the friends that I have met here have all met there significant other online via webcam before flying across the country to see them. As far as posting pictures, I really didn't have an issue as the website was called my yearbook which for me was keeping up with old friends from my high school, etc. kinda like face book is these days with family photos etc. But I can see your point about wanting to see the man your meeting beforehand and this did cross my mind, but honestly, my trip was about hanging out with the girls and enjoying my vacation, it wasn't focused on meeting Mohammed at all actually until I had a few free days left to myself and I decided to call him.

I am kinda curious since you brought it up though about not seeing the other person before meeting, think I will ask that question on the forum and see how many people like myself didn't meet online and how many did.

Thanks for the question LOL.

 Pics can be photoshopped, years old, or even actually be someone else (I knew someone this happened to !)

Unfortunately though, creepers can easily grab a freeze frame off a webcam, or even record video off it. I know of some real dirt bags in the Middle East who get trusting women to disrobe on camera, even do more private things, then share the video with their friends who all have a good laugh over it.

I wish you well and hope your first meeting is all that you imagined it to be minus the falling on your face. :) you're lucky you only have about two months to wait. I bought my ticket 5 months in advance the first time. the wait was crazy!

Agreed. Hope all goes well & there is no fall! :star:

Not to be nit picky but meeting on myyearbook *is* meeting online. Just because you didn't utilize a webcam doesn't mean you didn't meet online. Of course you didn't use a webcam if you didn't actually go to Morocco for the purpose of meeting your now husband. If I were going to Egypt anyways and my now husband was just going to be a coffee date I don't think I'd have bothered really getting to know him beforehand either. That's neither here nor there though. The OP asked what it was like to see your beloved for the first time and I'm thinking she meant how was it when we all eventually met in person.

Well, I am really not speaking for all people, but the friends that I have met here have all met there significant other online via webcam before flying across the country to see them. Great topic!!! I can totally relate to the not wanting to look awful after the looong travel! So but of course I had a plan lol.... I flew from Chicago to Turkey before my final flight to Cairo. So once I got to Turkey I found a restroom and whipped out my arsenal of soap brushes lotion and perfume. I washed.. scrubbed... moisturized.... brushed my teeth my hair then changed my clothes. I then went to wait for my final flight feeling fresh n clean n nervous! About 30 mins prior to landing I got out my makeup bag and put on some light makeup did another spray of perfume and was feeling rather pretty and confident.

Upon landing I went thru customs got my visa... picked up my luggage where I also found LOTS of eager "help" LOL I had to keep saying No NO NO I have help waiting! I walked a long time to get out where I would find my Ahmed. I found one last restroom I ducked in for one final once over. OK AMBER PERFECTION!!! LOL

I walked out into the waiting area and began looking around and there he was standing off to his self looking handsome... happy and nervous! My heart and stomach did flip flops in unison! We walked to each other he grabbed my cart and led me out to his car where he had flowers n candy waiting. He then began driving like a bat outta hell! I was screaming baby! baby look out... oh God oh God! He starting laughing and saying relax relax this is how we drive here! Yikes!

As we were traveling thru the city on our way home I kept looking at him just drinking in the sight and smell of him. He kept sneaking peeks at me and I thought "woohoo thank God I had my refresher in Turkey! " Once we got into his flat we kinda just stood there looking at each other. Then he showed me around and said good night to me with a handshake! YES A FREAKING HANDSHAKE!!!

So there I was alone in his flat in a strange country with a handshake! I changed into my nightgown and fell asleep before the call to prayer woke me up LOL! All the next day I was alone while he worked. When he came to me after work I was ready to cry! Here after all these months of talking planning and being excited we finally are in the same time zone and all he does is shake my hand!?!?!?

Anyways he came in the flat and we sat there talking then suddenly he asked if he could kiss me.... I of course said YES! The rest is history LOL He hasnt stopped kissing me since that kiss!

I wish you the best most memorable meeting and life together!

Aww that is such a sweet story :luv:

When I first met my honey he was flying in from San Diego. He had just been in the country a couple of days from his home country. His flight was to have suppose to have been here at 9-10 then we had a 3 hour delay due to maintenance issues or what ever. I had got my self all dolled up wearing some jeans a cute top my a$$ kicker boots. He calls me right before I was about to leave for the airport he's like maybe you might want to take a nap first since it's going to be a whilebefore my flight takes off. (I' thinking are oy kidding I spent all evening getting ready and then to sleep and reck my master piece (so to speak). I"m liek nah I'll stay up other wise I might not wake back up. ;) I'm like what will you be wearing? He's like I will be the "man in black" I chuckled. :) So when he did finally arrive he of course was the last person off. (most of the pics I had of him were either tiny or he had his sun glasses on) So when I did see Him i saw this huge buff guy. I'm like is that him? His photo's did him no justice!! He was so exremely good looking. He of course was wearing his sun glasses. (this is his thing he has to always be wearing) but when he finally walked out the doors I was there waiting for him with the hugest smile ever! :D I pulled up his glasses so that I could look my love's beatiful eyes. We gave eachother a hug and kiss upon his arrival. This was the beginning of our happily ever after.

What wonderful and precious stories. I don't know if mine is near as eventful. I flew to Amman on work related trip and Mohammad agreed to meet me at the airport and take me to where I was staying in Amman. The flight was on time and immigration went fast for me until they lost my luggage!! So after getting help from another gentleman traveler in the same predicament as I was. I walked out the of the security area and looked around. There was my Mohammad waiting for me and greeting me with an "Ahlan Wasahlan" and a quick tug at my hand. It was a precious moment to see that wonderful smile and eyes I could drown in. Alhumdollah.

As for the webcam we had exchanged photos and used the webcam once in a while but only for a few moments because it always managed to freeze up or slow the connection drasticallyon the computers. I have always been so leary of webcams and my very few short experiences with HNG's that I never had made it priority to use one or see theirs.

I booked my flight in the summer, so I had a few months to wait before I flew there in December. The anticipation was really, really difficult... lol

I remember I was waiting for my bags (three of them, yeah I overpacked) for what seemed a long time. I finally got them and when I walked outside I looked straight ahead and my now husband was waving his hand in the air. I was thinking, "Oh my God, I'm really here in Morocco, and that's really him".......he looked exactly like he did on cam and in pictures. I walked up to him, he hugged me really tight, kissed me on both cheeks, hugged me again, grabbed my bags and we went to get a taxi. From there on it was like we had been together forever. We went to the cafe across from the consulate and sat and drank coffee for a while and talked, and then we started our journey :luv:(L)

That night we had dinner with his best friend in Rabat, and the next day (night) his sister and mom picked us up at the train station in Marrakech. I felt like part of their family from the first minute I met them. :)

I also did the primping before arrival thing... I had a 2-3 hour layover in Amsterdam, which has WONDERFUL facilities, by the way... anyway, I changed into some regular clothes (I usually travel in comfy pajama type clothes on long flights) and cleaned up, brushed my teeth, all that. What is funny is that I remember that part way more than I remember actually seeing my husband for the first time! I think I was so tired and excited that it just didn't register. According to Ahmed, though, he met me inside the gate, because since he worked at the airport, he was able to talk some people into letting him inside. In later flights I had to face that huge mass of people and it is totally overwhelming! I remember his smile when he first saw me, and how he hurried over to help me with my bags. I think I hugged him, and we held hands while we waited for our taxi, and all the way home to our apartment in Giza. I still remember so clearly the butterflies in my stomach, and that I was shaking, which I'd never experienced before in my life. I just kept looking at him and we were all sappy and grinning at each other like a couple of idiots. I had one moment of "what did I get myself into?!" when we drove through a kind of sketchy area of town, and the area that are apartment was in was completely unlike anything that I had seen here in the US, so that was something to take in. And then there were the five flights of stairs, and ALL of his family waiting in the apartment once I hauled my fat #### up there, haha. We had a wedding ceremony with a... dang, I forget the name of it right now, but someone who officiates marriages. We had one of those that night, with all of his family present, we ate some food, and then we both passed out for about 12 hours. I was exhausted from traveling, he was exhausted from preparing the apartment for me. We ended up getting formally married about two weeks later, when we finally managed to drag ourselves out of the apartment and down to the Ministry of Justice. :)

I've been to Egypt on a trip in 2009. I met my fiance in 2010 from friends on FB. I flew back to Cairo in March of this year to meet him in person. We skyped every day & emailed everyday. When i picked up my bags & paid for the visa. I was shaking. Nervous, biting my lip.. Looking around & thinking ####### am i doing. No i dont want to do this. Wait you flew all the way here to meet him, you have to do it. I was so f****** nervous & excited at the same time.

I was slowly walking and trying to blend in with the crowd of people who were exiting. When i saw his face standing outside... I quickly took a few steps back and hid behind that huge poll in the airport. Not really a poll but a thick single wall type thing. I was hiding. For about a minute or two.. All i remember doing is breathing & not thinking straight. I guess i was numb. I sucked it up and exited and the first thing he said (while laughing) was, WHY DID U HIDE? I couldnt stop smiling, he couldnt stop smiling. I couldnt take it all in that moment, but damn if i can go back to that moment, i would. That adrenaline of meeting your love in person for the first time. Such a different feeling than when you hear there voice over the phone or see there face over Skype. The worst part, is being separated.

My husband and I met in person while he was in the US for business. I attended his workshop and during the group dinner after the event, he sat next to me (total shocker) and thus began our love story (L)

My husband is Egyptian, living in Germany for over 25 years now. I'd like to share what happened at the airport when I came to be with him.

I'd sold my house, my car, my art and furnishings as well as left a very comfortable and rewarding career to be with him. It was a big leap of faith for me to do that considering I am a creature of habit and not one to leap before I look. My then boyfriend refused to come to the US because I had a few acquaintances tell me that he was just using me to get a greencard, and when I asked him about it, he was deeply offended and said that in no way would he come to the US after having people try to tell me that he was using me. He's had a B1/B2 visa since 96 and goes to the US at least twice a year. He had no deep desire to live in the US and was only willing because it's what I wanted. After all that, in order for us to be together, it was up to me to move to Germany... so I did.

I arrive in the Frankfurt airport one very cold January morning with 5 pieces of oversized luggage on 2 luggage carts and navigate my way to the meeting point where he met me during my previous Germany visit. He wasn't there. I wait 15 minutes.... 20 minutes... 30 minutes. At this point I start panicking. What in the hee-haw is going on!?!? Was he in an accident, did he somehow forget that he needed to pick me up... did he change his mind??? I started doubting myself and wondering if I had made a huge mistake... and then thought about all that I'd let go in order to be with him. I'm sure that I probably looked a little sick to anyone looking at me. I'm in a country where I don't speak their native language, I don't have a mobile phone, and I have no idea if I should stay put or look for someone to help. Considering I had 2 luggage carts, I decided to stay put.... 30 minutes later (1 hour total), I see his best friend whom I'd thankfully met on a previous visit walking towards me. He knows no English, but he managed an, "All is OK" for me. He called my boyfriend on his mobile, and my boyfriend explained that he'd been stuck in traffic for the past 2.5 hours due to a major accident. In desperation, he'd called his best friend who lived near the airport to meet me and let me know that "all is ok" ...

When he finally arrived about 20 minutes later, we ran into each other's arms and he kissed me all over my face and hair (he loves my long, straight hair, lol). All of my fears and doubts were erased, and I was with the man that I loved and that loved me in return. 5 months later we were married and I've no regrets whatsoever.

We're moving to the US now (5.5 yrs later) because I asked him to reconsider his stance on that. We have a 4 yr old son and no family here in Germany, whereas I have a ton of family in America that would love for all of us to move back and become an integral part of their lives. Fortunately, my husband gets along well with all of them and knows how close I am to my family, so he agreed and we're DCF'ing through the Frankfurt Embassy.

if you managed to stay with me this far... thanks for reading, lol!

Our Story:

Apr '06 - We met in Houston, TX when he was on a business trip

Jul '06 - I went to Germany to visit him at his invitation

Oct '06 - He came back to Houston, TX to visit me and ask my parents for my hand in marriage

Jan '07 - I moved to Germany

May '07 - We got married <3

Jun '08 - Our little munchkin was born <3 <3

4 years later we decide we want to move to the US.....

20 Jun 12 - We went to the Frankfurt Embassy and submitted my I-130 with all accompanying paperwork at window 40. It was looked over immediately and I was sent to pay the fee at window 23. I took the receipt of payment back to window 40 and was given the DS-230 form for Hubby to fill out. Lucky for us, I already had one finished for him. We turned in the DS-230 at window 22 and received our case number and the IV Document Checklist.

Presently, Hubby is back in his native country getting his police report and birth certificate. Upon return, he will update his vac/immunizations and do his Medical Examination. We are waiting for I-864 joint sponsor paperwork to be returned to us, and then we can send everything in with a Request for Interview. We have a target date of mid October to establish residence in the US.
