My distant cousin in Egypt wants to come to the states for school. I'm not sure if she or her family can provide proof of income, but just to get a heads up from anyone who knows, is it possible to show that me or my mom can be a sponsor for her here in the states?? Has anyone dealt with having a family member from Egypt come to the States on a student visa at all?

Answers & advice is greatly appreciated :star:

Yes, you can write a letter and the I=134 to show you will support her and pay her college fees (remember she will be a foreign/ out of state student, it will be expensive!)

The fees will be upwards of $20,000 per semester and often the consulate wants to see that the student can support themselves as the I134 is not legally binding.

Investigate the school that your cousin wishes to attend to see what their international student fees are

Good luck

It is extremely genorous of you.

We went to the local college to ask about the process. For US fees it is 36 for credit, for foreign students it is 240 for credit. They said that for their school you have to show access to 15k for each school year. Almost all schools have a foreign student department and they are very helpful. You relative would also have to qualify for the school

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Oh my goodness that's expensive

Would she have to be registered into a school during the process of all this or we can do that a little after she arrives? Also, does an accredited trade school or vocational school count? You know those private type 'colleges'

If you have to put the word college into " ", then I'm going to assume that no,they don't

She'll have to be accepted into an accredited university or college program before the student visa can be issued. Often this acceptance requires a partial payment of tution.

You need to research this, it is really expensive and not something to be taken lightly. Each school should have an international student office which you can direct lots of these questions to

Good ludk

She presumably has a career path mapped out? You do not fly half way around the world to go to school without a clear goal.

I believe that is for community college, if one is going to Univ cost per credit hour would be even more.
