My appointment was at 2:30P.M at San Antonio, Texas. I got there at around 12:45. The appointment letter says to arrive no earlier than 45 minutes from your interview time. But, the security guards let me in without hesitation. The guards were very friendly. I gave them my interview notice and they told me to sit down and wait to be called.

Around 2:30 P.M. I was called by the officer. He looked very professional; he made direct eye contact and asked if I came alone. He asked the question TWICE on the way to the elevator. I told him I was alone. (My husband was training at another duty station and could not attend)

As I am waiting for the elevator, he observed me again. The security guards were making direct eye contact. At this point, I just said “ I am really nervous sir.” They all smiled. In the elevator he started to telling jokes. This REALLY made me relax!

He lead me into his office, I am glad I didn’t sit down, because he instantly raised his right hand and I swore under oath.

These are the questions he asked me:

1) What does your husband do?

2) What isn’t he here? TDY(temporary leave for duty). Would you like to see his military orders? NO. That’s not necessary

3) What’s your full name?

4) What’s your birthday?

5) What’s your husband full name?

6) What’s your husband birthday

7) Where were you born?

8) Where was he born?

9) Has he ever been married before? How many times?

10) Have you ever been married before? How many times?

11) When did you divorce?

12) What’s his ex-wife’s name?

13) When was the last time you saw your ex-husband? I wondered why he asked this question. This is the one I didn’t prepare for. I assume he wanted to know if I was married or had been seeing my EX while I was with my current husband

14) Where did I meet my husband? Korea.

15) What were you doing in Korea? Teaching English

16) How long were you in Korea?

17) When date did you come America?

18) Have you been to American before?

19) Where is your visa to enter America? He looked at my passport like 4x. I had to keep explaining to him that I am Canadian. I don’t need a visa. We just get a B2 stamp in our passport and I can stay in the States up to 6 months as a tourist. Finally it clicked in his head!

20) Did we have a wedding or reception? I said no. I just came here to visit him. I had no plans to marry him so there was no wedding.

21) Have I met his parents? This was an important question to him as he observed me carefully as I answered......I told him I will go in September. His mother bought the ticket of us.

22) His mother will pay for BOTH of your tickets? Yes. I have the tickets if you wish to see(No, not necessary)

23) Where do his parents live? I could not pronounce the city well. So, I told him I had to look at my G325 to answer that.

24) Are his parents still together? Yes

25) Are my parents still together? No

26) Where does your dad live? Nicaragua

27) What’s your nationality?

28) He asked me everything on the i-485 relating to being arrested, having criminial record, being a prostitute, doing drugs etc......I said no, and he checked off no with his red pen.

29) What does your mother think of him?

It seems like a lot of questions. But, the interview itself only lasted 15 minutes. He was very professional and to the point. From time to time, he observed me as I answered questions, but he was more focuses on flipping through pages, hole punching, and taking some notes.

Finally he said that he will be issuing me a two year conditional green card. And, I should receive it within a few weeks. He said if I don’t receive in 3 months, I should be worried as it may have gotten lost in the mail. He stamped my passport with the 1-1551 and wrote down my alien #above it. He said while I wait for my green card, I can travel with the stamped passport with no problems

My advice is to people calm. Answer the questions truthfully. Don’t answer in so much detail if t it’s not necessary. Most of my answers were 1-2 short sentences, talking too much just leads to more questions.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. It’s really not that bad. As many people say, if your marriage is genuine, you have nothing to worry about.

I asked him if I can have my married name on my green card because we never did it at the courthouse. He said YES. How simple was that!

I brought a VERY ORGANIZED BIG BINDER OF INFORMATION, but he did NOT ask for one single document! He said everything he needs is in the file. Nonetheless, I am glad I came well prepared.
