JFK is a busy airoport, but pretty fast if the weather is nice. If the weather is bad, you might be stuck on the plain, because of some safety rules. London airoport is also a busy one. How about you check the plain status for the same flight you booked, just on different date. It will give you an idea if they have a lot of delays or not in London for departing plains. Generally, I think 3 hours are enough for connections traveling within the country, but not if you are traveling internationally. This is only my opinion.

We're going in the summer so I don't think weather will be an issue... I got an 83% delays for that flight. I'm just not sure at all. On one hand, spending another $2000 on a ticket for me sucks, but on the other, it'll suck more if then we miss our connection.

Puerto Rico. Last time it took SO about an hour, on a tourist visa, but I'm not sure if with a CR1 he'll use a different line or not.

If it was me, I would take a chance. If you'll miss your connection flight, I don't think that the airline will charge you $2000.00 per ticket to put you on another flight, because you had a connection and it was not your fault for being late.

Is there another flight to your destination that day? If so, go with your plans and if you miss the flight you will be placed on the next one. You bags may go on the original flight and already be at your destination. If there is not a flight that day or my preferred method is to wait until the next day and fly out. You two can take in NYC for a night and not have to worry about making a connecting flight. Yes, it costs more, but this whole process is expensive and you get to spend time together in NYC. For my wife it took 2.5 hours in Denver and that was waiting on the bags, immigration took about 10 minutes, but three hours SHOULD be enough time.
