That sounds like an awful lot of food to consume so early in the morning. That will keep you full for awhile but not until after 9pm. I would consume what you normally would for breakfast because stuffing yourself will not take you through the entire day anyways. When I used to fast I would get up to drink and maybe eat something small (a bagel or toast) because I'm not used to eating so early in the morning. I usually don't eat breakfast until around 10am on a normal morning. I've never fasted in the summer so I feel for those who do it. Last time I fasted I believe Ramadan was in October.

ETA - you don't want to eat anything spicy or salty for suhoor otherwise you'll be more thirsty all day. Or at least that's been my experience.

Hmmm there are some good bagel companies here that make some wonderful tasty bagels. I found this great protein mix at the GNC store about 4 months, its a vanilla bean and is by far the best tasting smoothie mix I have ever had. I don't enjoy the protein taste but this mix is so wonderful to mix with frozen peaches, strawberries, mango & pineapple mix. I can literally go 3/4 of the day w/o eating doing this drink mix. I have been doing breakfast and lunch with these smoothies now for 4 months and really enjoy the non filling but still feeling full, if that makes sense.

Gonna do the bagel thing for sure that sounds good and my smoothie but going w/o my coffee all day is where I will feel the crankiness for sure but what the heck is one day and if all goes well, maybe I will try another day.

Have your coffee with the suhoor. :) Then have some water also. That's what I used to do. Then I would have coffee with my dates at iftar. I fasted full time for like 10 yrs. You'll be fine for a day or two and I'm sure your husband will appreciate your efforts. :)

"The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

We love bagels in the morning with a little bit of cream cheese, poached egg, tomato and avocado slices. It sticks around for a long, long time when you're fasting. I have that on work mornings anyways, when I've got to get stuff done and need to do things requiring a brain cell or two. Otherwise I eat oatmeal or cereal.

Food and drink are totally secondary- I have weird eating habits anyways, but what wears me down is sleep deprivation. I still have no idea how to make that easier, not in July anyways.

yes... also be careful and conscious that after a while, you'll start to eat less-- so try to not overstuff yourself. Granted, that is less of a problem for daylight hour fasting than for full day fasting. I know the longest I ever fasted was 5 days although I did allow myself water during the fast. You have to be cautious about eating again.

Yes. Not listening to the physiological cues from your tummy because your brain hasn't synced up with your newly shrunken tummy can lead to an over-stuffed and very uncomfortable tummy. Avoid.this.

Yep. Always easier to add more food, very yucky to wish you could remove it.

So what about weight loss, do any of you lose or stay the same or gain? I remember last year, Mohammed actually gained a little. I am a little concern this year as he has lost 17 pds, since he started working three months ago. When he got here 1.5 yrs ago he gained 20 pds in less than two months, but I think he needed the weight gain personally. It seems looking around while in morocco the men there are really slim and some too slim in my book. After he put the weight on, he started thinking like an American lol and said whoaaaa I need to rethink eating a bag of mucho chips every other day which he really did lol. When he first got here, we did eat out a lot just so he could experience some new tasty American food. When I use to go to Morocco, he would always request the biggest Helmans Mayo I could find, they loved it so much there, they would take a spoon and eat it right out of the jar. I told him, uggg it's for sandwiches honey or dips, and his reply....well we don't make dips and sandwiches lol... I remember him also saying, we never count fat or calories here, we just eat. I can see why, as the majority of the food his family prepares is pretty much healthy as they rarely fry anything. It seems I lost between 7 and 8 pounds each visit and of course would come home and in no time gain it back.

Yesterday, I kept thinking and the more I thought the crazier I became about being home and not working two extra days a week. I was so bored yesterday just sitting around and typing here on VJ, that I woke my daughter up and we went and joined a gym together as so we can hang out more and do some Zumba classes. Its an all women's gym and very nice and within walking distance. I once was a member of the YMCA for 12 yrs, but I never really felt comfortable doing some of the weight training program in front of the men and lol Mohammed said he preferred the all women's gym for us anyway lol go figure. So today is gym day for the two of us.

Happy weekend everyone.....
