Ammar went in. he said everyone was brought to the windows one by one and was denied and sent home. Then, they called him into a back room with vending machines and tables (sounds like the staff lounge lol). They didn't take anything from him, including the police certificates (grrr). They also didn't want to see the mounds of things I gave him to show. He said she would read out the form and answer them all herself (like "Name:XXXXX, Date of Birth: XXXXX.") At the very end she said, "I just have one question-- why did your wife get divorced?" and he said, "That's not your business. Ask her if you want to know." She then just said "well, ok, congratulations, I'll take your passport and you'll receive the visa in about a week via Aramex." End of interview.

OMG!!!! lol....WOW...but it scares me that everyone else got denied...did he say why, were they all there for cr1????? And how long ago was this?

That was 2007. They were there for K1s, IR1s, CR1s, and K3s as well as a couple of tourist visas.

TBH, I don't remember a whole lot of people on VJ who were petitioning through Jordan from Jordan getting denied.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

Yeah. We didn't really have any... you could say 2 weeks, but there was a holiday and 2 weekends in between his interview and the visa arriving via aramex.

So has your husband's family always lived in Amman or are they from another village?

His parents grew up in Irbid, Malka to be exact. When my husband was a baby they moved to Oman. My husband and his family moved back to Amman, Sweileh in 2004. It's a beautiful section way up on the hill over looking the city. I could see myself eventually living there after my kids are grown and on there own. I really love everything about the city and the culture, well except the centipedes that I have seen in the bathtub a few times. Nasty little creatures they are!!!!

Do they still do village things ever or do they not really go back to a home base? Like do they still participate in any tribal things/keep those traditions?

As a matter of fact they were in Irbid today to visit a cousin who is visiting for a few weeks, he goes to Irbid pretty often as most of his extended family lives there and his Mom and Dad own land with thousands of olive trees, and he goes to take care of what ever business needs to be taken care of. Today there were demonstrations in Irbid which turned into riots, the people were protesting because the local government had secretly sold a big parcel of land that was slated to be a reserve, to the Israeli government. My husband and his Mom and Dad were stuck because the roads were closed and they couldn't get out of town until well after midnight.

My husband's father is the patriarch of the family so very often they have family visiting in Amman, aunts, uncles, cousins...there is rarely a day that goes by where someone from the extended family isn't there. As you know the families are huge, it is so interesting to be there and observe the dynamics of it all, very fascinating, I am constantly learning new and interesting traditions and customs. Yes they participate in tribal things and they are very traditional. I really would love to live there someday..I enjoy it all so much!

Huh. I'll ask about it. my husband is there now and didn't mention anything. How could they sell land to Israel? The King and overall govt would have to approve that exchange of territory. Ammar did mention the Palestinians rioting a lot since he's been there along with a few other groups. He's overall not pleased.

Do you know what villages your husband's tribe occupies normally? I think this stuff is neat. :)

I don't know how they sold the land, but I know it was approved by the King and Jordanian gov and the people were not happy at all, that is what the people in Irbid were telling him today. I didn't get the entire story as by the time he got home he was exhausted and I only got to talk to him for a few minutes before he went to bed, I'll aks him in the morning. His family is for the most part in Malka, he calls them a clan. He actually hates going to Irbid, he is a city boy thru and thru.

Today I am not positive is he was in Malka though, his cousin is visiting from Oman and has a house in Irbid, but to be honest I didn't ask if he was in Malka today. He left at the last minute and he texted on his way there.

A clan is a unified familial group which will also have unrelated families as part of it.. they actually operate under the tribal system since they are a familial group of extended family with a head over the group. So clan isn't the English word to use. :) Clan would be like if Qawaliehs and Shatnawis were all underneath one group called the Shatnawi clan.

I'll ask about this too. Interesting! So far nothing on the Israeli news either. Mysterious :)

I have no idea I just know he uses the word clan, maybe confusion of words on his part, which just leads to confusion on my side..lol. Like I said when I talk to him in the morning I'll get the whole scoop.

Hmm. Umm Qais is where my husband is doing his dissertation research lol. OK, this makes more sense.. Irbid page was showing a sit in for an arrest of some guy and the burning tires unless i missed it somehow which is possible-- my arabic is sucky. UQ is what, like almost 20 miles northwest of that? I will ask. he's going to have to go there today.

UQ is 20 miles northwest of what, Malka? hmmmmm...i dont know exactly. I know when i was in Malka at his aunts in February we took a drive to UQ and if i remember correctly it was about a 15 or 20 minute drive. To tell you the truth unless I am the one driving I rarely pay attention as I am too busy looking around at everything. And all the street signs are in Arabic and I have no clue how to read them. Even when we go from village to village in Irbid a lot of times I don;t know we are in a different one because I can't read a thing, and I just don't go to Irbid often enough to really know my way around other then when I am in the neighborhood of his relatives.

Like I said when he was going to leave Irbid the street was closed down and people were throwing bottles at cars and there were tires burning so they turned back, and when he asked someone outside what was going on they told him it had something to do with land that was sold to Israel. Who knows if the person who he spoke to even knew the real reason...I have no idea. I guess we will find out tomorrow. I'm off to bed. Night night
