Pardon me for posting on-topic but....

The thing I don't understand is why this lady is on the payroll to monitor kids.. and she clearly is not doing her job, she allowed these kids to carry on without even reporting them.

She seems like a sweet lady and all that but it's dishonest to take money for a job you can't perform.

Looks like she won't need to draw that payroll check much longer. Some kid started a website that's raised more than $500,000 in donations for her, so far.

Seems like there is a double standard being applied here with this case.

Imagine if this were a man whose paid duties centered around preventing bullying and keeping order on the bus and instead he sat there and cried while students acted like they did, no one would have collected money and he would be out of a job.

Days after a video of Greece bus monitor Karen Klein being bullied went viral, resulting in international outrage against the students who filmed and participated in the incident, another controversy has surfaced in Gorham.

Police announced today that on Friday, June 8, Susan Mantz, 47, of County Road 46 in Canandaigua was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Ontario County sheriffs report that on June 8, Mantz allegedly placed her hands on a Marcus Whitman student on the bus. The bus was parked in the bus circle at the high school. Middle and intermediate students were on the bus, awaiting the high school dismissal.

The students on board were becoming loud and disruptive and Mantz tried to quiet one student by placing her hand over his mouth, say deputies. The student did not sustain any injury, and reported the incident to his mother upon returning home. Mantz was charged based on a complaint by the student's parent.

Marcus Whitman superintendent Michael Chirco said there is a district policy which prohibits employees from touching students, except to restrain them to protect themselves, other students or property. "That was not the case in this instance," said Chirco.

Mantz was issued an appearance ticket charging her with endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor. She is scheduled to appear in Gorham Town Court at a later date to answer the charge. Mantz has been assigned to home by the district, and no further action regarding her employement will be taken until the court case is settled, said Chirco.

This silliness is what drives clear thinking people away from even working or being in such positions. A simple gesture of putting a hand over the mouth of an unruly child is treated as if she harmed the angel in some way.

I recall years back I was invited and encouraged to become involved in the Civil Air patrol, (Boy scouts of aviation) due to my background in aviation.

I attended a meeting and was presented a handbook along with other info. There was a section in there about guidelines for interaction with the teens which seemed so over protective that even putting a hand on a shoulder was improper without first asking for permission from the teen. I declined joining the program in part to this overboard reaction to, some man somewhere touching a teen sexually.

Is the danger real, every bit as real as a kid being hit by a car... do we lock out teens in the house so the "what if" doesn't happen?

A big part of the problem with these schools is, no one wants to be the judge..... no one wants to decide what was over board and which case wasn't....they would rather have some silly one-case-fits-all rule, which is why we suspend for bringing an Tylenol to school and in this case punish this lady for a reasonable act like covering the mouth of a student who won't shut up.

I am going to say as a driver for Greece Central....we write referral after referral and we get no response. The district has piles of them sitting on their desks. This is not an isolated incident..merely it was taped...we drivers and monitors endure this each and every day. You have no idea what goes on after the bus doors close!! Whats worse is that some of them are the nicest kids in society...but they turn to Hyde in the bus. Our hands our tied as to what kind of punishment we can do. We can't touch them...yell at them...nothing. The kids know this, if we try to get control...their response is "what are you gonna do...you cant do anything to us". Karen know the routine. We can do write up after write up with no avail. They just get tossed in some file until someone gets to them..or gets filed away. If they call the parent's in...their comments are "what did you do to my child to provoke them"!!! When I was a child a good ole fashion spanking worked for me...and was in fear of doing anything again...We need to be able to give our teachers and the drivers back their right to put these kids in their place without any reprocotions!!

If I caught my kids doing this I'd beat them. Wouldn't care if someone called Child Care Services. Where the hell has discipline gone these days?

Do you give monies to a PAC? IF SO - make certain that PAC is anti-ACLU. IMO (and others), tis the ACLU to blame for misplacing corporol (sp?) punishment as an arrestable offense.

You could, instead, extradite them to Texas. We've different rules and laws here.

Now, when I wrote you, I really meant you. I know, you've not the money to successfully handle, much less manage, the extradition. And that's ok - get a punk teen in yer neighborhood to setup a donation website, the monies will pour in, then you can use the monies to facilitate the legal proceedings - anything over 250K you can keep
