first of all congratulation in your easy process, Second , I wonder why people start attacking this poor lady about her process. is it because she has an easy process and you guys were paranoid as hell, and over react & worried about AOS !!???? is it because some of you guys envying her for everything went super smooth!!!!?? and you wish her to get in trouble in future OMG !!!!! . I would say, just go and celebrate your success. and to those people who felt so bad because she got her GC easily, guess what her GC won't be revoked for this , because she didn't lie to USCIS to get any immigration benefit. if, the chance is 1/10000000, the government decided in the future to prosecute her, what do u thing usually the judge would decide when he/she see that the employer is the one who broke the law ? plus the government is always interested , in such cases, in the employer not in a person because the government could easily lose the case in the court in such circumstances. Some of you guys did their best to ruin her happiness.

You seem like an expert. Where'd you get that 1/10000000 number from?

You honestly think that IF she gets caught for this, that she won't be in any trouble? She willingly went to work, knowing she was legally unable to do so. She also knew her employer was using a fake SSN for her, and did nothing about it. But yes, she's the victim.

It always surprises me at how easily people simply shrug their shoulders and look the other way when someone else is clearly doing something they should not be.

To be fair, the reactions of people in this thread were probably more to do with a person's sense of justice being violated. The OP got away with what seemed to be a crime. I know people say the world isn't fair; but the law tries to force people to be treated fairly. Most people who were appalled at the OP were probably upset at the fact that they are being treatly less fairly than the OP.

Go try to understand how the government branches work, and I think it's a good idea before your naturalization , if u plan to do so.

The OP asked for advice about this here in December 2011.

i wanna tell you something. with uscis i am not gonna think about justice u know why, because the decision will be done by IO and in my point of view, sometimes the decision will be affected by the IO background and his/her mentality,So if u have a case, it could pass so easy with an IO and it could go very bad with another IO. so, I think if u are talking about justice you can seek the court where people got the justice. for example, My interview is in 4 days, I will do my best and pray to God that I have a nice IO, and even if I got a very bad IO am not gonna hate each OP because they had their GC , but I. one time I went with a good friend to visit her old friend , and he used to be an immigration judge, you know what he told me , he said exactly in this country you can make the illegal stuff legal through the law. as a person, I wish the easiest process to everybody, even if I got through problems. finally, I would say, when this argument rise up, I blame some IO's who like to make the people's life V.hard

When I talk about justice, I mean the abstract idea of fairness shared by similar cultures, not necessarily what a justice thinks is just.

I usually don't wish bad things on anyone, but sometimes I can't help how I feel about things. When I've obeyed the law and suffered, and someone else disobeyed the law and prevailed, it violates that sense of justice that is innate in many people.

That is why I reacted. It's the legal system's fault that they do not prosecute people for committing fraud (knowingly using a false SSN). Not the OP's fault necessarily. I shouldn't be angry at her.

It's funny though. I stated only the facts of the first post by the OP to my wife who initially had the same reaction as me and many others in this thread. There is always a reason people react, and sometimes it's not because of mere envy as suggested by another poster. Albeit I will admit that I'm sure some out there would be envious.

Thanks for sharing.

sounds like an ad for eharmony or match.com...

So you thought playing with a shirt sleeve was more important than bringing your PASSPORT??? This is solid advice, from a couple who says... "we weren't stressed and didnt take the the whole 'proove you are real' thing seriosuly." (I don't think USCIS would ask for proof if it they weren't serious)

My response to this: you are incredibly lucky (and from an easy country), please don't pretend like your good looks and personality won the guy over.

Yeah try that stuff in Nigeria. You wouldn't even be allowed as the Petitioner to be inside. Man on soooo many levels this is so offensive. So you interviewed in the US so no POE. Used a made up SS# which I doubt. You cant just make up a number. Oh well

I totally agree , that the system needs improvement. for example, people who lives in AK they finish the whole process within 2 months Usually, but if you live in NY, sometimes it takes much longer. in this case I am not gonna blame the people who live in AK and suggest that USCIS delay the process in AK to be fair with the other states , I would blame USCIS because they should hire more people in the backlogged states in order to make the process fair and in proper time line for the people

It's actually pretty easy to just pull a number out of your ####. 151-95-2358. Bam. You now have a brand spankin' new phoney social security number.

I suppose in that instance fairness could be reached by improving conditions for the immigrants in NY as opposed to deteriorating conditions in AK. In the OP's case, I would think being more lenient on people working in the US (ie. allowing anyone including illegal immigrants to work in the US) would increase workforce supply so much that it would ultimately decrease wages and lower the quality of life of the average American. It would create hardship for Americans.

I don't think allowing for use of a fake SSN or even allowing all illegal immigrants to work is the solution. I think the solution (in this particular instance) is creating stricter laws prohibiting such behaviour and giving fair punishment to those to disobey the law.

So that, I think, is where we differ. You would like more lenient laws allowing non-immigrants to work without a valid SSN (or else allowing them to have an SSN), whereas I would think that if that were to happen, it would ultimately have an adverse affect on the American public, and so I would rather stricter laws. You can correct me if I misunderstood.

I am AGAINST faking anything, but, yes I am with giving everybody SSN, you know why coz everybody will pay taxes to the government, instead of working under the table, and not paying taxes. especially, these days with this bad economy. and, for the job market, this will help to have a better candidates for the companies. and trust me there is a very strict law, but the question why the law is not applied ? because they can't apply it to everybody, why ? because USA needs the illegal worker, we gonna like it or not , but this is the truth.

I agree with this much.

I think that the increase in government revenue would not prevent the American public from suffering from a decrease in wages due to an increase in workforce supply. It would merely make up for the revenue that would be needed for the government to manage this extra workforce.

I agree that it might increase efficiency somewhat (as companies define it), but at the cost of the average standard of living of the current American public, which is what the government is charged to act with its best interests for.

Unfortunately, even though I agree that in the long run, it would be good for the country as an organization, I think it would be bad in the short run for the present American nation; and the present American nation is what the government is charged with protecting and managing.

You make some good points, though.

When people work here illegally, they often work for less than minimum wage. That makes hiring US citizens less attractive to businesses who are interested in getting the cheapest labor possible. Some illegal workers pay taxes. Some don't. Many send their income out of this country back home, which takes that money out of our economy.

Too many people in this country are out of work. I recently got 80 applications for a minimum wage job. When all those US citizens are employed, I'll consider the argument that we "need" illegal labor.

I would like to see every business that hires illegal workers SEVERELY fined. Take away any financial benefit they get from doing it. Then maybe they'll stop.

As for the original topic, I wouldn't be half so eager to see an individual punished. I would love to see her employer put right out of business.
