No one has any clue what she wrote on her I-9, or if she even completed an I-9. All they know is that her employer made up a SSN (according to her) and she disclosed that on her AOS paperwork. End of story. Not even an interesting story, in my opinion.

I can't believe this thread is still going. ITS OVER she got her stamp , end of discussion. CONGRATS BY THE WAY , not everyone has the same situation in life and sometimes you get opportunities in life, wether it be legal or not, you make that choice on your own. As many other peopl have said, this is not the first time this has happend and it sure won't be the last :bonk: , You guys act like the people at the NY Office or NAY office are perfect! yea they make mistakes! yea there are going to be cases that slip by! you know what, who cares!!! Its 1 in every 1000, The OP took a Shot, knowing she has every right to get denied, KNOWING she had red flags everywhere, ready to accept here fate, and she came out on the Positive side. Good for both of them! stop being judgemental on whats wrong or right because its not going to change a darn thing.

From what I've read the majority of the posters in this thread have not really been bothered with the fact that she has adjusted from a tourist/VWP entry but rather that she knowingly worked under a fraudulent SSN.

Sarcasm mode on, eh? There's tons of visas that allow you to the the RIGHT way but the last thing you should do is go around the system unless you are on the same boat with the OP. :) If ain't unfair to you, I'm not even sorry but yes it is for me.

Yes, my comment wasn't directed at them. But, as I said before, every time someone comes here and says they've worked illegally, people tell them "just be honest, it'll be ok". Now that she has done just that, and it is ok, people are screaming that she should be deported and charged with fraud.

Her attitude is off-putting, to be sure, but if you look at the actual situation, she isn't any different that the other people who come here saying they worked illegally. She's just a little more immature than most.

You seem to be missing the point, working illegally and working illegally with fake documentation are not the same thing. The latter is a cognizable felony unlike the former which even the White House has shown a preparedness to accomodate. I do not think anywhere on this board anyone has ever said it is okay to work with fake documents.

If the OP gets away with working illegally with a made up SSN, well .. hurrah for them, I guess.

What concerns me the most about this post is the attitude that "hey, if you don't take this whole 'proof of relationship' thing seriously, and just act a little extra lovey-dovey at the interview and look good together, you'll ACE this! no worries, everyone! it's not even a big deal" ... when it is a big deal and plenty of people get denied.

That's dangerous advice and a dangerous attitude to give to an entire forum of people looking for advice.

Actually, you DID that. Making up an SSN = pretending to be a US citizen = very illegal.

I was given an SSN from the US office that issues them. They NEVER asked me if I was a citizen. I don't think you HAVE to BE a citizen to get them, because THOUSANDS of us on here have them and are not citizens. I wasn't even a greencard holder when I got mine, I think I had been in the country almost a month. In fact, Visa Journey provides instructions to NON-citizens on how to obtain these cards.

Working without authorization isn't the issue. Using a false Social Security number is the issue.

We don't know that she did work with fake documents. We know that her employer "made up" a SSN and put it...somewhere. I seriously doubt he ever completed an I-9 because even honest employers screw up the I-9. An employer who's willing to make up an SSN didn't check her ID or anything else. He probably wrote a number on a payroll form to get her paid, and that's it.

What people typically say here is that as long as you didn't misrepresent yourself as a US citizen, you're fine. I never saw her say that she claimed to be a US citizen, only that she worked with a fake SSN and admitted to it.

She might be an idiot, but that's not grounds for deportation. We let lots of idiots in. :)

Isn't the issue more where that number appeared and who signed the document it appeared on?
