Are you anticipating some problems with your AOS? Most people do it themselves and it is not difficult.

If money is an issue, do not waste it on a lawyer. It's all very, very simple. People here can walk you through it, as well as the AOS guides. The guides tell you exactly what forms to fill out, HOW to fill them out, and what supporting evidence is required. Follow it exactly, ask questions about things you don't understand, and you've saved yourself a lot of money.

Agreed, save the money for the application fee. I did AOS without a lawyer, it was confusing but it wasn't impossible. Plus you can always ask when you don't understand. :)

Read Vanessa&Tony's post. It lists all the documents you need for each form all laid out for you. Just remember, the fee is currently $1070. It was $1010 back when she wrote the list and she cannot edit it now. It is easy to follow and everything else is still spot on: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/235331-aos-ead-ap-from-k1-the-aussie-way-doc-list-included/

If you get stuck on anything, just ask here on VJ. Lots of knowledgeable people around to help you for free.

OHHH I'm so glad you cleared that up, because I am using Vanessa's post... I saw the $1010 fee and I figured more than one check had to be made... 1 for that amount and another for $60. It didn't make much sense and I'm filling out the forms for now headbonk.gif so I hadn't read all the way through.. baby steps.

Thank you!

Follow the VJ guides, read the appropriate forums, and then check the USCIS website for the up to date fees and forms.

The process is straightforward in the majority of instances. Use the experience of the VJ community along with your own good judgement. That ought to get you through with a minimum of headaches and delays.
