AOS and Children

So- since the kids have no name check / fingerprinting/ interview... or do they? Does this mean the time between filing and getting the card is shorter? or Do they hold it to make it the same as mom's? Would love some advice / previous experince to kind of settle the mind. Thanks. Love the help. Meliss.

Your children will not be approved until you are..... their application is based on yours. so they cant be approved until your AOS is approved...

If they are under 14 children only get the index fingerprint that goes on the green card. They do not get the set of 10 fingerprints that goes to the FBI for background checking.

Hi there,

I was approved before my kids were fingerprinted. At our interview the officer approved us pending the kids getting their biometrics done. When I went to have it done, they did the full set of fingerprints on my 13 year old son (he only just turned 13 too). they only took one fingerprint for my 11 year old.

We had this done about 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything from them, nor have I received the kids cards. I guess this may be normal processing time or it could be yet another of the USCIS many screw ups with our case.

My son (aged 17) who followed on to the US 9 months after myself (so my AOS was already approved when he got here) had his AOS approved without interview, had full fingerprints done and the process took a total of 5 months - so no - it isn't necessarily quicker.

Interesting. I double-checked and the cutoff age for the full set of 10 fingerprints is 14.

Did you also have to pay the 14 and over fee for the I-485, and the $70 biometrics fee, for your 13 year old?

Yodrak, I know that the cut off age is 14. That's why I was so surprised when they did the full set of prints on my 13 year old. And, no, they did not make me pay for it. Now that you bring the fee up, I am worried that the fact they didn't make me pay will mean yet another stuff up in our case and that they won't process his biometrics. *argh*. This whole process is a total nightmare. I am so used to them making mistakes that I worry about all the little things that can go wrong - mostly because we have had so many little things go wrong due to their stuff ups.
