E2- how much of an investment?

You could get away with $250,000 on an E2.

Hi there! Thanks for this. :) I've been browsing this site looking for information on the E2 investor visa. My boyfriend is British and his dream is to take the money he made from selling his company in the UK and use it to start a production company over here in NY. He has everything ready to go for his application, but we've been a little nervous about whether or not it will get approved for mainly one reason: The two lawyers we've met with have given us conflicting information about how much money is required. One lawyer said he would get approved with only $100,000. The other lawyer said closer to $200,000 as the minimum amount needed. So my question is: Which is correct? Also, if he has everything else done - an office space already set up, an American bank account, and a killer business plan (which he does) how easy is it to still get approved even with the investment money being on the lower end? (Unfortunately the majority of his money went into all his camera gear/kit and the budget for the last film he made) Just looking for an honest/realistic answer about this if you or anyone else in this forum who has been through it could respond.

Thanks!

How many full time employees will he have?

It does really depend, I guess with the right business plan anything is possible.

PS Marriage is much more obvious.

The employees will depend on what projects he has coming up (obviously, would probably change on a yearly basis) but he would also have full time accountants, marketing people, etc. It would definitely be more than the required 10...

Yeah, marriage is much more obvious, but we've only been together 7 months and want to date for longer before we decide to make that big of a step. If he gets approved for this investor visa, he'll be allowed to stay for a couple years at least, which would be not only good for him business-wise but for us too (and then see where it goes ... because, you know, even with getting married, the visa process is difficult)
