What-A-Burger is the best! Totally.

Driving test: It was 7 months ago..... so I don't remember it too well.... I just went to the centre on NW Highway - quite a drive from central Dallas. My memory fades but I think I got there about 9am -- maybe slightly earlier.

When you tell the person at the reception desk you're there for a driving test (and you've done the written) -- if I remember correctly I think they give you an appointment there and then. I think I had a couple of hours to kill so I went home - or to What-A-Burger ;-) There's one near Fry's....

So then you turn up for the test appointment (you have to go right round the buildings to the alley at the back). Drive drive drive. (What they're looking for is speed I think: don't bother with that signaling or stop sign nonsense... and they mark you down each time the gas pedal comes off the floor.)

When it's over they give you an escalated ticket -- beginning with E (I think...??!). So you jump ahead of people waiting for the written tests. Just a short wait and then the lady takes your photograph, gives you a temporary licence and your full license arrives 3 or 4 weeks later.

Wow, I'm getting scared, now...I hate driving, and just hearing about the test is freaking me out!

I've had my Italian license for over 5 years now, but I never drive  and I'm pretty nervous about the whole test thing.

I've tried the written test sample online and it's quite easy, so I guess that shouldn't be a problem, but the driving part is REALLY scary!!! :help:

P.S. What-A-Burger is gooooooooooood!!!

geordieluvr,

a little known secret, is the rockwall DMV. not many people know about it, and for some its not so close. But its always empty, and joe did his written and driving test all in one day, without an appointment.

Hi everyone, :D

I have a question. I had my DORA Interview Jan 05,2006. I received the first NOA in Feb. Till now I didnt receive anything about biometrics. It said in the receipt that USCIS will scheduel my apointement, still I tried to play stupid and go to one of the centers, but I was turned down.

Do you guys know anytime frame for the finger prints? The way I see it my case will take beyond the promissed 90 Days :angry:

It seems like it's taking a little longer than normal -- although not *that* much longer. It appears to take around 25 - 40 days to get the appointment after the I-485 submission NOA so you've still time -- in my opinion.

It occurs to me that your I-485 NOA was rather late. Not getting it for at least 25 days is unusual I think. Maybe there was a delay there originally and it's had a knock on effect.

It SUCKS that all you can do is wait.... but unfortunately that's all you can do I guess :( . The officer at my interview explained that they send the biometrics appointment letters at various stages. So, if one got lost in the mail (for example), you should get one sent when your case moves from person B to person C, say, and then again when it goes from C to D.

Not good news I know. Sorry.

Can you find your case online? Mine appeared on line -- the status was never updated but at least it was there and in the system.

Nope. I couldnt find my case online, as It shows this message:

Status for this Receipt Number cannot be found at this time in this automated system. Please check your case receipt number to see if it is correct. If you have questions or concerns about your case status, please contact the service center where you submitted your application.

Don't worry about the information line (or mis-information! :P ) line, they don't deal with the DORA cases, so they can't tell you anything over the phone.

The fact that you can't find your case online is definitely strange, though...why don't you make an infopass appointment and go ask in person?

Keep us updated and GOOD LUCK!!!

Gman: How's your job hunt going, now that you have your Green Card??? :D

Inlove_tx:

Jobhunting? Not too well yet I'm afraid. The only company with whom I've had any success are a company based in San Francisco (to whom I was referred by an old colleague). That was very positive -- but they don't have any positions yet.... In Dallas I haven't heard back from any positions I applied for... not a whimper. (I wouldn't mind if I goofed up an interview.... at least that would be partial success.) :-(

Actually, has *anyone* got a job yet?

Maghreb:

Don't forget that it's perfectly normal for there to be no appointments available on Infopass. You have to keep checking and checking -- they often release new ones around 11pm but you never know when someone will cancel an existing one so the best thing you can do is just check... check... check.
