Hi All,

I recently got married to a USC (I am currently on H1-B in Dallas), want to know if I can apply for the GC myself or do I have to go through lawyer?. Will the paper work be complicated that only lawyers can do it?.

Any help will be appreciated. :help:

Thank You!.

Hi Racer and welcome to the DORA corner :D

Most people do the AOS process by themselves and without an attorney. My husband and i are in the minority and we have hired an attorney to do our process simply because we felt too overwhelmed by the paperwork involved and are too scared of doing something wrong!

Just so people know..

I went to apply for my SSN on friday, and I was all in the system and verified instantly. I am expecting my SSN within 7 - 10 days of that appointment, so basically some time this week. I entered on the VWP (yup, bad Jen!) so I was totally not expecting this to happen - I thought it would be the next big problem, as I didn't have a K1 or anything else to give the USCIS prior notice to get me in the system before Jan 5th.

So for anyone else who applied through Dora around the same time as me, don't worry about being manually verified, as I'm expecting you to be in the SSA system too. Its really nice to know that the Dora branch of the USCIS are much more efficient that I ever gave them credit for!!

In other news, I have my Green Card in hand - and have already used it as ID several times - mainly at Baskin Robbins of all places!! Its so nice to have ID in my married name at last, before I felt like a criminal spending $6 on a debit card and then showing my UK ID as backup with the wrong name on it!!! :D

Jen & David

06/30/04 . . . Jen meets Davids folks for the first time - without David!

07/02/04 . . . David moves back to the Dallas after 6 years of Military Service all over the world

09/28/04 . . . Tearful goodbyes at DFW as Jen flies back to the UK

06/28/05 . . . Jen flies out to DFW to spend her 23rd Birthday with David

Hey there,

70th day place was the other location. Here's my account.

Other news from me.... I've finally found a job! Been whizzing around a bit between UK and DC for interviews and what not. Should be signing tomorrow. They want me to move to Denver eventually though. (Skiing...hurray! Moving house... booo!)

Cya,

Heya DORA guys and gals!

Ciaran and I are making our plans for our trip next weekend, our appointment is monday morning, May 8.

Anyone have any advice for us?

Right now we're sorting through all of the paperwork, and intend to take 1 folder of the copies for USCIS and one folder full of the originals, in case they ask for them.

We've got the I-485, G-325A, and sponsor/cosponsor information, and all additional proof it requires.

I've set out our joint bank statement and we'll take a copy of our lease with both names on it as well.

Other than the fees, anyone else have any suggestions for us?

Thanks a lot, we're getting nervous and excited. Time to book a hotel!
