I would like my father to apply for B1/B2 visa from PAK. I was wondering if I could sponsor the trip. If I can, what forms do I need to fill for the temporary sponsorship?

thx in adv.

A visitor visa applicant applies based on his own merits.

You cannot sponsor your father for a visitor visa. You are not a part of the process.

Your father applies on his own.

I don't think this is fully correct rather fundamentally right. A b1/b2 visa is based on merit but your sponsorship application MAY add value to the merit. I forgot the form but on the USCIS site you will find the form, instructions and info on supporting documents. Keep in mind, a sponsorship won't guarantee a visit visa.

If you try to throw letters and promises from the USC at the adjudicator, it may also backfire. A tourist visa is not sponsored, so to try to send unsolicited sponsorship paperwork over makes your case weak.

AOS for my husband

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

IMHO a formal letter will not do him any good but you can send him an e-mail or letter with your details such as address, and a photocopy of your card/passport for he will have to disclose his intended destination and address in the US and his relationship to you.. That will help him support his request for a visa in order to visit you in the US. Nothing however will replace his need to show strong ties with his country. At the end of the day it is all about him.

Good luck.

there is no such thing as 'sponsorship' with regard to a tourist visa....every applicant must qualify solely on their own merits and situation, not by promises and assurances made by others (which are totally unenforceable)...while relatives may offer to pay the freight on behalf of their visa seeking relative, that does NOT add equity to the interview....at best, it is neutral; at worst, a liability.
