Hi everyone!

Had my medical today, which went fine. BUT...

When I got home I looked at the vaccination document worksheet I received for me and my son and next to the MMR (which I had a month ago) she ticked insufficient time interval and wrote 2nd mmr due 8 weeks. Likewise on my sons sheet, she put the same for his pneumonia vaccine (he had this 4 weeks ago also).

Then at the bottom, she ticked vaccine history incomplete and also ticked applicant may be eligible for blanket waiver because vaccination(s) not medically approriate.

Could anyone tell me what this means? If I have the booster in 8 weeks will it mess things up for the AOS? How do I get the booster recorded? I'm confused! :help:

I got my wife's boosters from our personal clinic in the USA once she got here. We brought a record of all the boosters given with us, along with that sheet you have to the civil surgeon in the USA who transcribed and signed the forms. We then turned this in with the AOS papers.

I'm positive of this answer-- If your DS-3025 is COMPLETE, then it will pass AOS without the boosters and without getting a civil surgeon to fill out a new form (I-693)in the US.

Look at your DS-3025. If it has the following items, you don't need an I-693.

1. Shots marked (at least one of a series, date no longer than 10 years ago)

  • MMR
  • Td or Tdap or DT or DTP or DtaP
  • Varicella- VH written by it if you had chickenpox. If you don't have VH then you're not complete and will have to get varicella in the US..
  • Influenza (only during flu season Oct 1-Mar 31)

2. Everything else marked not age appropriate

3. RESULTS section filled in with "incomplete... may be eligible for blanket waiver"

4. Signed and dated by the doctor

If it's not completed like that then see a civil surgeon for the I-693 and for the booster because by then the "insufficient time interval" waiver won't work because enough time would have passed. If it is totally complete on your Knightsbridge form, send a photocopy of your DS-3025 with you AOS package and skip the booster and civil surgeon.

My form is exactly like you said above. I was wondering because I read through the medical thread and no-one else had raised this issue, so I thought it was maybe nothing to worry about.

Just wondering why she put I had to have the boosters in 8 weeks? If I don't have to have it, that would be great I hate needles :)

Does my son need the booster for his pneumoccal?

Thanks for your help :D

The need for boosters are the vaccines are not fully effective unless the booster is gotten after the required time. That is a medical issue, I'm not sure how USCIS sees it, but if you want the full effect of the vaccines, get the booster regardless.

It doesn't come up as often in pre-K1 discussions because you can get a visa with zero shots. But when people get to the US and have to file for AOS, it is asked a lot. I used to answer one a day in the AOS forum but I've kinda dropped out of that unless a British person asks and it shows up in "my portal".

Why does the Knightsbridge nurse write that on there?? Well a new person took on that role a year or two ago. They didn't used to do that. And it's not in the Technical Instructions to Panel Physicians to do that. They are just supposed fill in what you've had and mark the waivers for why not appropriate on that day. I guess she's trying to be helpful. BUT she hasn't studied the AOS process or the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS that says you have to be up to date on the day of the medical. And she hasn't followed real people who have done AOS with no further shots. She also tells people they can go get the shots at their GP if they don't want to do it at the medical. But if it's not recorded on that DS-3025, then you would have to get the immunizations sheet done over in the US by a civil surgeon who would put everything on one new form and sign off. And that's where the nightmares begin. Huge hassle and big expense.

I haven't kept up with children or child issues for visas or AOS so don't know about your son. I would think it would be the same as you for immigration. When he enters school, he will likely have to catch up for the school district requirements, but a civil surgeon wouldn't have to sign off for a school. Be sure and take all documentation of his shots with you.
